Recently when we were at the cleaners, a lady was asking the girl behind the counter if any thing could be done about her sweater. She had washed it at home and now one sleeve was longer than the other. We couldn’t resist intruding to ask if the sweater was made of acrylic man-made fiber. The women looked at the label and found this to be true — and also noticed the sweater came from a large store, Immedi- ately the woman said she would take it back, because she knew they were reliable. However, this wasn’t necessary. Man-made fibers are excel lent for sweaters but some (not all) acrylics stretch easily if not properly handled, The sweaters go back to the orlg- Inal size when dried in a dry- er. If you don’t have a dry- er, handle the garment care- full when washing, scoop both hands under it to squeeze out water. Don’t pull it. Then dry on a flat surface. 50 c ■ $1 DOROTHY GRAY'S AT GANTENBEIN S Want more money in your pocket? Of course, everybody does. One way to get it is to use know-how In buying. For instance, automatic washers vary from just under $200 to over $400. Will the least expensive be the best buy for you? If you know what to look for, you can save yourself both money and trouble. Recent surveys by the U. S. Department of Agriculture show that automatic washers last an average of nine years. If you bought yours in 1955 or 1956, brace yourself for a major ex expense soon--and plan ahead. Your county Extension of fice will be glad to give you our free bulletin, “Choosing and Using Your Automatic Washer.” How do you keep a concrete floor clean? If it always seems dusty, use a floor sealer made specially tor concrete I Your local con- crete I products dealer prob- ably has this. If the floor is badly pitted and seems to develop even more pitting, the cement may be poor quality. Repouring may be the only answer. You can put down asphalt or vinyl asbestos tile over concrete but you have to have a smooth surface or the flooring will not stay down. SPKIALS! Hood last Sat urday and Sunday, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade of Rt. 2, Sandy. The dog mushers with their wives and chil dren, numbering 60 in all, slept “wall-to-wall In the Wade living room, while their 70 dogs were bedded down in the orchard. The wary and restless sleddogs greet ed each departing guest and ar riving car with a concerted ulula tion, making the night’s house party a memorable one for the Wades who pronounced it a "howl ing success.” This was the first time these races have been held on Mt. Hood although they have been held for years In Alaska, Canada and Wash ington. Kerry and Velma expect to have their own sled and team ready to race next year. The Wades raise and train Siberian huskies.
