For est Service. The service counted nearly 12 million visitors, about thrice the total population of the two states. MRS. RUTH KEITH Mrs. Ruth Keith of Eugene, died Jan. 28. She was the daughter of Mrs. Dora Barendrick and the late Dr. Barendrick, former Sandy resident. VERNA STROPE Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon (Thurs day) for Mrs. Verna May Strope, 82, a resident of Sandy since 1929 and secretary of the Sandy Grange for 32 years. Mrs. Strope died Sunday at her home at Rt. 2, Box 27, Sandy. She had been ill two weeks. She was born Verna May Morrison at Norton, Kans., and moved to Ore gon with her family at the age of 8. She graduated from Washington high school in Portland and was married to George Strope in Port land on July 2, 1906. In 1929 the couple movedtoSan- dy. She was a member of the Methodist church and the Sandy Rebekah as well as the Grange. Survivors include her husband, George; two daughters, Mrs. Ed na M. Jones, Newport, and Mrs. Larry Guthu, Clackamas; a son, John A., Sandy; eight grandchil dren, six great - grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Carrie B. Services will be in Carroll funeral home, with burial in Sandy cemetery. The Sandy Rebekah lodge will give burial rites. Three marriages were per formed by Justice of the Peace George Howeiller last week in his Sandy office. Minnie E. Grayson of Fresno, Calif., was married in a single ring ceremony to Alvin H. Horst of Gresham on Wednesday. Jan. 29. Witnesses were Carol Wolf and Vernon Williams. The bride is a graduate of Sandy high school and the groom is em ployed at Hall Processing Co. Witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Merwin of Sandy. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hodge of Rt. 2, Sandy and is employed at Oja Lumber Co. The newlyweds will make their home in Sandy. OSU Sets Interview Dey James C. Lumley, 83, of Gresh am died in a local nursing home Jan. 29 after a long Illness. He was born in Boone, Iowa, and came to Oregon In the late 1930’s. He worked at a barrel factor in Portland for many years before ill health and age forced him to retire. His wife Emma died in May, 1949. He is survived by three broth ers: Ralph of Red Lodge, Mont., Charles of Seattle, and Clarence of Oakland, Calif.; four sisters, Janet Tripp of Charleston, Ill., Kate Gillen of Oakland, Margaret McDaniel of Alhambra, Calif., and Elizabeth Jones of Roundup, Mont, two nieces, Mrs. Thomas Kubitz and Mrs. L. H. Will, both of San dy, and a nephew, Russell Tripp of Portland. Funeral services were held at the Bateman funeral chapel Mon day with burial at Riverview cem etery in Portland. ELIZABETH W1L6ON Mrs. Elizabeth Anna Wilson, 73, of Rt. 3, Box 855, Gresham, a longtime resident of the Hills view area, died at a local hospi tal Saturday. She was born Elizabeth Anna Williams in Wayne County, Iowa. On Oct. 10, 1908, at Osceola, Iowa, she was married to Charles Wilson. In 1937 they moved to Oregon. They made their home at Corbett for five years. In 1943 they moved to Hillsview.
