Rose Cortes was the speaker and later in the lunch room she entert ained with dances andSouth Ameri can music. The room winners for attendance of parents were Mrs. Moore’s and Mrs.Schmitz’s. CHICKENS The primary department has had a science project going for three weeks. An incubator, made by Mr. Callaghan, has been in Mrs. Opperman’s window with six banty eggs that we have watched. The second and third grades have writ ten stories about chickens and the winners were to get baby chicks for prizes, but unfortunately none of the chicks hatched, so the reward will be to get the stories published in the school paper. Second grade winners are first, Nancy Taylor; second, Michael Founds; third, Glenda Williams. Third grade winners are first, Pat Dyal; second, Ralph Peter son; third, Gary Schwartz. Here are the two top stories: THINKING ABOUT CHICKENS Have you ever thought about chickens? Have you ever thought about the many good products chickens can give us. such as eggs and fried chicken? They can't hurt you like dogs and cats can. Have you ever thought there is a shortage of chickens these days? Some farmers may leave poison around their chickens or they might not have a strong pen. Wolves and foxes can get into the pen. Did you know chickens can be very interesting animals? They develop after twenty one days. Pat Dyal Third Grade 1st Prize See the eggs in the incubator? In twenty one days the eggs will Sandy Assembly of God Sunday School Morning Worrhip People's Young 9:45 11:00 ¿J 5 p.m. Eve. Service 7:00 p.m. Bible Study (Wed.) 7:30 p.m. Wm. E. Here is an example written by Raymond Jenks: Flying I wish I could fly an airplane So high up In the sky; I think it would be lots of fun. I wish I could fly higher than the sun. I wonder if it’s ever been done. And when my wish is at an end, I’ll want to go up In the sky again. Mrs. Spahr's room has used Winter as a unit for January. SANDY LOSES AGAIN by Tom Croston The grade school varsity was defeated by the Parkrose Heights team last Thursday with a score of 46 to 32. Parkrose took an early lead of 12-2 halfway throu gh the first period. Later in the second half they led by nearly 20 points, but Sandy quickly narrowed the lead to 14 points but could not get any closer to victory. Ron Williams led Sandy with 14 points, followed closely by Mike Nelson with 12 points. Tom Croston had 4 points and Ron Nelson came in with 2 points. 6th GRADE STOMPS WELCHES by Ron Williams Thursday the Sandy sixth grade basketball team traveled to Welches for a good game with their sixth grade. Although Welches had the height they were unable to use it, for Sandy was able to steal the ball often. Sandy came out with a smashing victory 26-6 with Jim Martin scoring 10 points, Nickie Eklund 9 points and Mike Hite 7 points. Their next game is at Cottrell today (Thursday) at 3:30. The sixth grade had its second victory last Thursday when they beat Cottrell 29-15. Mike Hite was high scorer with 10 points. Other scorers were Mcky Eklund, 8 points; Tommy Fussell, 5; and Jim Martin, Steve Christensen, and Keith Olson each 2. Today (Thursday) we are play ing our first home game and we hope everyone comes to cheer us on to a third victory. Students who have had only E’s and V's so far this year are Connie Berger, Carol Clement, Verle Kuehn and Linda Persons in the eight grade and Susan Drew in the seventh. The Sand) (Ore.)
