The Izaak Walton League, Ore­
gon City Chapter met on Wednes­
day, Dec. 4, 8 p.m., Chamber of
Commerce Bldg., Oregon City for
election of officers and committee
reports. E. Demerest Schmitt,
Milwaukie, read the Izaak Walton
pledge.
Meeting was presided over by
John Miller, Boring, who was
elected unanimously to serve a
second term. Elected to serve
with Miller were: Vice-presidents
of outdoor recreation, waters,
woods, soils, wildlife: Roy McNeil,
Portland; John Anderson, Mil­
waukie; Lewis Rivers, Estacada;

Kenneth Gates, Portland. Mrs. E.
D. (Bonnie) Schmitt will serve as
club’s treasurer. State director,

Oscar Larsen announced the
Waltonian Christmas Tree Sale to
be held 10 to 5 dally, 13th 4 Main
Sts., Oregon City beginning Mon­
day, Dec. 9. Cultured trees any
size $3.00; nobles $1.00 per foot.
DeWayne Page, West Linn, was
thanked for his generous contri­
bution of an electric stove which
sold and the proceeds donated to
the Save Our Salmon 4 Steelhead,
Inc.
Oscar Larsen passed out ini-
tiative petitions prohibiting com­
mercial fishing for salmon and
steelhead. The purpose is to pro­
hibit commercial fishing for sal­
mon and steelhead in al’ Oregon
inland waters, including boundary
rivers and prohibited areas. Lar­
sen stated, "approximately 38,000
valid registered voter signatures
are needed to put this measure
on the ballot for the election Nov.
1964."
J. H. VanWinkle reported on the
recent Governor's Conference on
Natural Resources held in Salem;
the State Game Commission Hear­
ing in Portland and the Izaak Wal­
ton League State Convention held
In Portland. "The Oregon City
Waltonians were well represented
at all three meetings," reported
VanWinkle.
Of much Interest to the Wal-
tonians is the newly completed
boat ramp at Clackamette Park.
The League was saddened by
the death of two members of long
.standing: Robert Mount, Bright­
wood, and Clarence Brunner, West
Linn. The League will send sym­
pathy cards to the families of
these departed Waltonians.
Following the election, Mr. and
Mrs. R. S. Williams, West Linn,
served cake and coffee.

A total of 386 students from
Clackamas county are enrol ed at
Oregon State university this year,
according to a geographic index
compiled by the registrar’s of­
fice at the university.
Just over 8000 of the 10,426
students attending OSU are from
Oregon. Forty - six other states
and 66 foreign countries are rep­
resented among the out-of-state
students.
A breakdown of the Clackamas
county total shows 11 from Sandy.
