Saying “hello" to our new col
umnist Ellen Stauffer. I will enjoy
reading your Ranging Zig Zag.
I’m sure you will get to love
our mountains as I do.
Want some news little lady, here
’tis:
“Old Up and Down," as my bis
cuit burner calls me, was born
and raised in as you call our
home state, “Pennsylvania Dutch-
land."
Ytp—Ellen, smoky Pittsburg.
Ever been there?
But I have been in Oregon so
long that I have web-feet, and moss
on my ears. Its a small world
isn’t it?
Good luck on your chatter, but
just a word from this old pro—
you'll never get rich, but you’ll
have fun.
Reading of Jeanne Stewarts en-
gagement to Larry Large make
me very happy. It looks like I
have lost a bet.
But may all the breaks in life
be good ones for a couple of
swell kids.
Hi Margie: I hope to see you
on the hill this year. That is if

that “Pray for Snow Dance’’ held
recently at Timberline Lodge does
any good.
Let us sort of take a gander
around and see how many dif
ferent clubs we have on our moun
tain.
Well there is the Mountain Grange,
the Lions Club, the Pow-Wowers,
the Hoodland Chamber of Com
merce, the Rhododendron Boost
er’s Club and now another being
organized under the nameofHood-
land Women’s Club.
Holy smokes; doesn’t anyone
believe in that old saying,
“United We Stand
Divided We Fall?’’
Anyhow, good luck to the gals,
Maybe i they will get something
done for our area. One thing no
one will ever do and that is out-
talk them.
Thanks to Mrs. William Web
ber of Hermiston a reader of my
column for remembering this old
mountain goat on his 39th birth
day.
Yep the years’ roll back for me.
Getting younger al the time.
My deepest sympathy to Mrs.
Edna Mount on the loss of her
husband Robert Mount.
Bob was one fellow I knew that
always had a story good for a hear
ty laugh. His many friends will
miss him.
Bob told me that he first met
the former Judge Edna Thiessen
of Milwaukie, by being put in jail.
Darn if the Judge didn’t keep
him in the coop till he changed
her name to Mount.
But Bob, away up there you
will meet guys like Charley Rus
sell, Will Rodgers, Abe Lincoln
and what stories you guys wil!
tell.
If Del Howard doesn’t get over
the flu soon and open the Moun
tain Barber Shop I’m going to
put a bow on my hair and change
my name to Josephine.
Ray Robertson feeling pretty
skookum these days after a stay
in the hospital, Atta boy Ray I
missed you and our yarns about
those big ones that got away,
Larry Bartley dating a pretty
lady; what’s her name? I know
but I won’t tell. Careful buddy,
remember the ring you put on her
finger will soon go thru your
nose.
Then too, like a lot of us old
married men know, the most
critical moment of matrimony is
breakfast time.
But what would us men do if
we didn’t have our secretaries of
the war department.
Like I said to mine as the bills
came in the first of the month:
“Listen honey, the minister said,
“Do you take this man for better
or worse.’’--not “Do you take this
man for all his worth."
A salute a most “Gallant Lady,"
Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy. Her
steadfast courage through a ter
rible ordeal has won for her the
highest admiration and respect
throughout the world.
We have lost a President: she
has lost a loving husband and fath
er of her children, as well.
If this gallant lady can carry
on so bravely? then so can we.

The evangelistic meetings be
ing held at the Stone Tower church
in Portland came to a close last
Sunday night. The Sandy 7th-Day
Adventist church ran a bus serv
ice and took an average of 50

The Safety Fair last Saturday
was a success, and could be the
first of an annual event. A lot
of work went into it, but it was
worth it.
The basketball team practiced
Friday night at Boring for their
return match with Estacada. The
game should be played before long
at the Saturday meeting. By the
use of black light she caused
her picture to “come alive’’ and
by changing the light her picture,
“The Four Seasons’’ was first
Spring, then Summer, Fall and
finally Winter.
Robert Col'ar wil' be in Sandy
this weekend to speak at the San
dy S.D.A. church at 11 a.m. Sat
urday, Dec. 13. All are invited.
