Here’s the answer and it can be done without staining your hands or wearing out your patience:Soak the fallen nuts for two or three weeks to allow husks to rot away. Then separate the nuts from their husks by squirting them with the water from a garden hose. Take the clean but wet nuts and dry them as you would any walnuts, being sure toholddry- ing temperature below 100 de grees. Soaking the black walnutsand their husks doesn’t mean dip ping them in water. Pile them in some out of the way spot and make sure the pile is continu ally wet.
