girls volunteer their services
under t
supervision of Mrs
Johnson The 56 members are
divided into four patrols of 14
each and are on duty for three
weeks at a time three times a
year, serving a total of nine weeks.
The busy crosswalks are patrolled
from 8:10 to 8:25, from 12:20 to
12:40, from 3:30 to 3:40. Then at
2:30 the first graders are led
across and at 3:00 the third
grade.
The PTA supplies their rain
coats, overshoes, and mittens. Two
years ago Safety Patrol became a
state law and since then flags,
helmets, and belts have been furn
ished by the Traffic Division of the
State Motor Vehicle Dept. It is
under the supervision of Lieut.
Holmes, who visits our school
twice a year.
In return for their dependabil
ity, responsibility, and time spent,
members of the patrol get a free
pass to the Sandy Theater twice
a month, and on the first Sunday
of each month they are taken to
the Gresham skating rink.
So hav e faith in the Safety
Patrol. They’ll get your kiddies
across!
When we walked into Mrs. Trip
lett’s room they were busy mak
ing Jack O’Lanterns in an art
class. Minerva Martinez and Denis
Bates have moved away.
Mrs. Miller’s class is sounding
out words and reading Tep books.
The first graders sang at the
art show. They all sang“ Bus Song”
then Mrs. Haneberg’s room sang
“Teapot,” Mrs. Masoa’s, "Where
Has My Little Dog Gone,” Mrs.
Jackson’s sang “Pumpkin Song,”
and Mrs. Miller’s sang "Spider
Song.”

a film and are using paper money.
Mrs. Smith’s room is getting
ready for Halloween by making
masks from plastic bleach jugs.
Patrick Culps has been picking
potatoes all week.
Deborah Moore from Mrs.

ifornia.
Mrs. Beehler's room has drawn

Amos married three women and
worked hard to pay for each one
so that she might be a free per
son. The first one, Lily, cost him
20 pounds. One year after their
marriage she died. Then he worked
to pay for Lydia, who died after
one year of marriage. After three
more years he was able to pay
50 pounds for Violate and her
child and was able to enjoy many
years of well-deserved happiness
with her. After his death at 91
years Amos became a legend.
