Sand) (Ore.) Post Thursday. May 23, 1963 (Sec. 1) REMEMBER Fifty years ago Bob Smith's livery stable, on left In this view of Main street, was servicing hay burners and high wheeled buggies instead of Studebakers. Schmidt's hotel, on right, destined to burn some years later, was at this time doing a brisk business. Problems such as repairing and re surfacing of street bothered no one. This old photo was brought to the Post by Mrs. Albert W. White of Woodburn, Kiddie Show Project Told who lived nearby and, as Mary Gibsun, attended Bull Kun school. The picture is dated 1910. This year marks a special occasion for the city of Sandy—a 50th birthday. In hunor of the occasion the young bloods of the old town are letting their whiskers grow and planning for a bang up celebration in July. The Post will print scenes of those "good old days" and hopes that people who have especially interesting old photographs of the city will let us borrow them. W arning Issued On Left Parking Free shows for youngsters were proposed by Mayor Mike Paluck at Tuesday's Chamber of Commerce meeting. "If each business man con tributes a dollar a week we could pay for an hour-and-a- half show each Saturday af ternoon during the summer," Paluck said. He said Estaca da does this and feels it stim ulates business, as people come to town so the youngsters can see the show. Most chamber members felt the project was worth looking into if the type of movies shown the youngsters were carefully screened. It was suggested that they be specified as being free to children 12 years old and younger. Howard Berger was appoint ed to discuss the Saturday af ternoon shows with the mana ger of the Sunset theater. I I $ Police Chief Bert Smith says he has had far too many complaints on wrong way parking. Smith says he has issued a number of warn ing tickets, but apparently these have been disregard ed. The chief says these wrongly parked cars are not confined to any one particul ar part of the city, but cars are being parked this way all over Sandy. He wants it known that he will issue cita tions for this kind of parking beginning June 1. Majority Veto Zone Change The majority of those at tending the zone change hear ing last week were firmly op posed to allowing Ben Salis bury and Gordon McCreary to build efficiency apartments on Hospital Hill Those who came to the hear ing to speak against the zone change that would allow build ing the 16 unit apartment were Duane Knapp, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Decker and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Buckel. Letters ex pressing opposition to the zone change had been received by Mi and Mrs. Bert Waibel and Keith Schneider. A letter favoring the change was written by John Schmaltz. Ben Salisbury says he and McCreary are now looking for a different building site for the apartments they plan to build. The one bedroom apartments, which are modeled after a sim ilar unit built in Beaverton, are designed to rectify the acute shortage of housing for Sandy school teachers and husbands or wives of patients at St. Jude’s. Salisbury says that in choos ing a new location the two builders feel they must locate within walking distance of both schools and nursing home. /5 I., 20% WALRAD INSURANCE AGENCY Phone MU 7-2861 YOU COULDN'T GIVE ME A NICER.
