6 The Sandy (Ore.) Post Thursday, .Mar. 21, 1»«3 (Sec. 2) 24 SUHS Students Take Merit Scholarship Tests UP and DOWN the MOUNTAIN By JOE KIEFER ose who wonder what I as a columnist do besides write one column a week for the Sandy Post might be in terested in my other activities First of all I write this col umn. It you think it’s a cinch try it, week after week for a year or two. It’s not true I do not have a ghost writer. I live in Rhododendron and work for a large hotel supply company in Milwaukie. I drive the distance of 75 miles a day, five days a week. During the skiing season I work on week ends at Sum mit for my friend Everett Darr and love it. A pretty busy man you might say. "When do you sleep?" But I wouldn’t trade my jobs with any of that stalwart crew who spent their spare time on the davenport and dream of the things they should do or would like to do. As predicted the current hik ing fad is turning into a craze. Leapfrog Grace Oh boy! Now it’s a 30 mile leapfrogging race. This may be all clean fun for our young sters, but none of this monkey business for old Up and Down. I have too many dang irons in the fire now. Someone told me Al Gren- wait was driving along one of our hiways and as he came around a curve a couple of hundred kids on one of those bunion derbys had the road blocked. Al stuck his head out the window of his car, and shout ed "Get oft the road — you crazy Democrats!" I haven't had any luck in getting Elmer Hanson, some times called "Grizzly Ike," to write about his lovable pet Maggie. So I guess I'll "Take the bull by the horns" and do it my- self. Gosh, I just hate to remind you, but the time is here again "Uncle's payday." One thing the boys of the Internal Reve- nue Service do — I they keep politics out of it. They never ask whether you’re a Democrat or a Re publican before they take you to the cleaners. I have nothing against mil lionaire presidents but I would like to see the day when other people could be millionaires, too. Wants Sense Made I'm going to propose a con stitutional amendment, that any decision by our supreme court make sense. Remember the good old days when you could get a nourish ing three • course political din ner for only one hundred bucks If taxes are cut, as proposed by our President, I suppose more people will build A- frames in our mountains and use them as a getaway-from- it all retreat Did you ever hear the story about the peacock? It’s a beautiful tail Or why do the humming birds hum? They have forgotten the words. For these wise cracks should get the bird. Someone asked me why I never wrote a book. I could write a book about NOW.. .at Famous Holgate Farms HOLGATE DISCOUNT HEALTH CENTER 5000 NAME BRAND VITAMINS HEALTH AIDS BEAUTY NEEDS * COLD AIDS Laxative» APain Aids ★ Skin Aid» ★ Reducing Aid: Stomach Antacid» and 5000 other health and beauh everyday! aids at LOW DISCOUNT PRICES CENTRAL DRUG CO., downtown ditcount drug* In Portland, famou* for 50 y.ar* for high.*! quality drug* at dltcount price», it operator of Holgate Discount Health Center, now often Health and Beauty Aid* at low diKOunt prices ... at 103rd and S.E Holgate . .
