Open Friday Eve.
Connie Smith, who was in
jured Friday while practicing
on a trampoline at Sandy high,
is said to have suffered a mod
erate neck sprain.
Dr. Elton Leavitt of Sandy,
who took care of her, says she
is back at school and he does
not foresee any ill effects from
the sprain.
Connie hit her head but was
not able to say for sure wheth
er it was the edge of the tram
poline or the floor on which her
head bumped, causing the
sprained neck.

Turtle Clubbers
Induct R. Howard
When George (Ray) Howard
was inducted into the exclusive
Turtle Club recently he may
quite likely have been thinking
back to he night of October
12 when he “qualified" for
membership.
There are few who do not
remember that night of the big
wind and those who were out
in it will probably never for
get it. Certainly Howard, a
member of a survey crew, will
not forget it.
He was working with two
other members of the survey-
ing crew on a new road loca-
tion when a guest of wind blew
a limb from a big fir. The
limb struck Howard's hard
hat, knocking him almost un-
conscious.
The only ill I effects he suf-
fered from this blow that
creased his cranium cover was
some temporary dizziness.
If he hadn’t had the hard
hat on his head? Probably he
would not have been around to
receive the certificate and the
new hard hat with which Zig
Zag Ranger Stan Rapp pre
sented him. These are the cer
tificate and badge of the Tur
tle Club, the club whose mem
bers have all been clobbered
on their hard hats by a blow
that could have killed or se
riously injured them, had they
neglected to wear this vital bit
of protective dress.
The certificate and hard hat
presented to Howard were pro
vided by the Bullard Co.
Democratic Women
Invited to Meet
Margaret Ann Fielding of
Zig Zag urges Democratic wo
men of the area to make every
effort to attend the Wednesday,
Feb. 27 meeting of the Jane
Jefferson club, in the Duelling
Room.
“This is a county-wide organ
ization of Democratic women,’’
says Mrs. Fielding. “The com
ing meeting should be partic
ularly interesting, as Rep.
Juanita Orr will be on hand to
show the film “The Legislative
Process.’’
Mrs. Fielding points out that
this film was made at the last
session of the legislature, with
our own legislators depicted
as they represent the people of
their districts.
The club provides dessert and
coffee and those who attend
generally bring a sack lunch.

Burglars Hit Schools
At Welches, Cottrell
Three local school burglaries
are being investigated, one at
Cottrell school and two at
Welches, according to Clacka
mas county sheriff’s officers.
Officers said an estimated $115
and several envelopes marked
“milk fund’’ were taken from
Cottrell school Feb. 12.
A plywood sheet had been re
moved from an outside door to
a boiler room which was under
construction to enter the school
building.
A hundred dollars was taken
from the principal's desk and
$15 was taken from four other
rooms. Locks on the doors and
the desk had been jimmied, of
ficers said.
At Welches school burglaries
totaled about $650 in cash,
checks and equipment, accord-
Ing to officers.
Tools valued at $12, and $80
in cash and $80 in checks were
reported to have been taken
from the principal’s office.
Earlier in the month thieves
entered the building through a
basement door, taking an es
timated $60-$70 from March of
Dimes envelopes in the office,
a radio-phonograph valued at
$350 and a phonograph valued
at $55.
