Sheriff s deputies arrested a

Deputies spotted the pair as
they started to race on San

Sometimes it doesn't pay to
open your mouth. Last week I
was commenting on the fact
that the high school kids won’t
sing the Star Spangled Banner,
and I did get a few telephone
calls from various people on it.
Some were good and some bad.
One lady phoned and said
even if the kids wouldn't sing
the song.at least they should
stand at attention (so at the
game last Friday. I looked
around as the flag was pre
sented. and sure enough, half
of the kids were standing with
their arms folded in front of
them. some folded in back of
them, and lots of them holding
coats and various objects in
their hands.)
I'm sure that they start in
grade school to teach respect
for the flag. In case some of
you have forgotten here are a
few suggestions on respect for
the flag. 1. When the national
anthem is played and the flag
is displayed, all present should
stand and face the flag. Those
in uniform should salute at the
first note of the anthem, retain
ing the position until the last
note. All others should stand at
attention, men removing their
hats.
2. Civilians will always show
full respect to the flag when the
pledge is given or anthem is
played by merely standing at
attention, men always remov
ing their hats. That is all I
have to say on the subject of
kids not singing the national
anthem. My daughter is afraid
she’ll get showered at school if
