work and the work of the
Community Teams. The Work
Plan states that Community
Teams will assist in developing
biological management and
monitoring plans, social and
economic monitoring plans, and
compliance and enforcement
issues. The Team will also
review all draft plans and base-
line results.
The Team itself will decide
many of the specifics such as
goals and meeting schedules. It
is estimated that meetings will
take place at least monthly. The
goal of creating the Community
Team is to represent a diverse
collection of stakeholders to
insure that all groups have a
voice in the Marine Reserve. As
a Community Team member,
your main task will be to repre-
sent and communicate with
your stakeholder group.
We hope that community
members will consider taking
part in this historic opportunity
to shape the management of the
first pilot Marine Reserve in
Oregon.

Flags back at library
The flags are flying at Port
Orford Public Library again!
The new flag and pole are the
result of a collaborative effort
between Advantech
Construction and the Port
Orford Police Reserves.
As most people know, the
first flag and pole were abduct-
ed before we had the chance to
thank the Masonic Lodge, the
American Legion and the
Police Reserves for that won-
derful gift. Happily, the beauti-
ful plaque mounted by
Advantech Construction that
shows the insignia of each
organization was not harmed in
the theft.

Stephanie Brewer receives a token of appreciation
from Father Andrew Thomas and a thank you from
the members of St. John's Catholic Church for all
time and energy she gives to the church, both as
Hospitality and Altar Society Chairperson.
In short, we are most grateful
to all these generous people for
making it possible for the flags
to fly at our new community
library …twice.

Iʼm on a non-profit Board…what now?
(A primer for Non-profits in our Community)
With a grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust and hosted by the Curry County Commission on Children and Families, Boards 101
will be offered on November 11, 9-4, in the Education Service District offices in Gold Beach at 29805 Mary Street. Trainers will
assist local boards in recruitment, orientation, board member roles, retention, organizational sustainability and fundraising.
We are pleased to have Roi Crouch and Mary Ward of the Ford Institute as our presenters. Topics will be timely and of interest
to those boards struggling with recruiting and keeping members and having all board members working toward the common
goals of the organization.
This training is presented without charge to our local non-profits. A continental breakfast, and lunch, will be provided. While
we recognize that November 11 is a holiday, and we do honor our veterans, it is also an opportunity for more board members to
attend and gain skills in providing local services.
Space is limited and stipends are available. For more information contact Karlie Wright at 247-7921 or 800- 242-9478.
