June 23
1.) Police received a report of
a lost dog. Area checked, unable
to locate.
2.) Police responded to a
neighbor complaint about possi-
ble pesticide use, resulting in
damage to neighbor’s flowers.
Situation resolved.
June 24
1.) Police responded to a
report of an attempted kidnap-
ping of a small child. Situation
not as reported, and was
resolved peacefully.
2.) Police received a report of
telephonic harassment. Subject
counseled about harassment, sit-
uation resolved with no further
action taken. Information
logged in case of further prob-
lems.
3.) Police received a report of
a driving complaint on a side
street. Area observed for a peri-
od of time. No violations noted.
Patrols will be increased in the
area in an attempt to locate vio-
lators.
June 25
Police received a report of
another lost dog, different loca-
tion. Area checked as well, and
no dog located.
Traffic activity was fairly
light this week. Twelve citations
were issued for speed violations,
with 36 warnings also issued.
The speeder of the week was
observed at 56 miles per hour in
a 30 mile per hour zone.
With the Independence Day
holiday approaching, we would
like to remind everyone to drive
safely. More people than normal
will be out and about, increasing
the chances for problems unless
everyone drives safely.

Hazmat wrap-up
At the recent Hazmat collec-
tion event we had a total of
20,265 lbs. of hazardous materi-
als collected at our recent col-
lections event. Quite a pile of
“stuff.”

visitors in the city, and with holiday traffic, all are
reminded to drive with greater caution.
Fire report
The Port Orford Volunteer
Fire Department was dispatched
to a structure fire on Friday,
June 26th.
The Fire Department respond-
ed with two pumpers, one ten-
der and a rescue vehicle. We
requested Port Orford
Community Ambulance be dis-
patched for standby.
The fire was a chimney fire.
Firefighters entered the home,
extinguished the fire in the
wood-burning stove and gained
access to the attic. We laddered
the roof and used a hose line to
apply a minimal amount of
water to cool the creosote fire in
the chimney.
Firefighters were on scene for
approximately two hours. We
continued to check the scene
throughout the afternoon and
evening.
