Life with Brice: A true
lady is honored by many
on her 90th birthday
Kitty Tucker celebrated her
90th birthday with her family,
relatives, and friends Saturday
April 19,2009. Get together
was held at the Langlois Lions
Club on Floras Lake road.
Present were daughters,
Thelma (Tucker) Thackley of
Monroe, Oregon, Lila (Tucker)
Callaway and family of
Clackamas, Oregon and Kathy
(Tucker) Orr and family of San
Diego, California sons Lee and
Elaine Tucker and family of
Santa Rosa, California, and Jack
and Leslie Tucker, and family of
Langlois, Also attending were
Nephew, Alan and Linda Tucker
of Selma, Oregon, Sister-in-law,
Inez and Ernie Hatmaker, of
Langlois, Nieces, Laneeta
Wright of Langlois, and Ruby
and Brice Wagner of Port
Orford, Long Time friends,
Friday and Kathy Phillips, and
Dick and Barbara Everest, Jim
Taylor and friend of Four mile.
Lunch was served and a happy
birthday was sung along with a
beautiful cake presented to Kitty
in her honor.
Of historical significance
Kitty’s husband the late
R.D.(Dick) Tucker came here in
1946 and started a brush mill on
Langlois Mountain country-
Isenhart Ranch. Dick only could
saw in summer as the roads
were too bad to truck sawed
lumber out in winter months.
Dick moved his mill to inside
Langlois and set up his mill, and
dug a millpond. He later filled
in the mill pond and dry han-
dled the logs, and pressure
washing the logs, then setting
them onto a barker which came
in later remodel /upgrades to
Tucker sawmill. Dick and Kitty

many
youngsters
and proba-
bly many
young men
got their
first job at
the Dick
and Kitty

Sawmill-Langlois. Interestly
many 4 by 12 deck planks for
the Port of Port Orford Dock as
well as 12 by 12 caps and sway
bracing, were sawn at Tuckers
mill, Langlois, Oregon. Dick
Tucker lost his battle to cancer a
number of years back. Son Jack
Tucker operated the mill several
years but lumber markets are
extremely tough to deal with
even though the mill sawed
some niche export to the
Japanese for a while. Sadly the
tough decision has to be made
by Son Jack Tucker and his
Mother Kitty Tucker to throw
the switches and lock them to
the off position. The now quiet
Langlois Tucker sawmill sits
with weather beating down on
its roof and holds the fond
memories of loggers, Ranchers,
millworkers,customers saying
farewell old friend we wish you
were still running.

Fire Hall is
progressing.

River Rural responds to all fire
and vehicle emergencies.
During the annual fire season
they run on all brush/wildland
fires (in conjunction with Coos
Forest Patrol) as well as struc-
ture fires. They do not have a
set of “jaws of life, but Langlois
has, as well as Port Orford
Rural Fire District so there is a
mutual aid agreement with both
Langlois and Port Orford Rural
for the “jaws of life” plus all the
air bag lifters, and various
attachments that are on scene
when needed. Sixes River
Rural Firefighters train with
both Port Orford Rural and
Langlois Rural, for emergency
rescue extrication with the jaws
of life.” Coming soon will be
the 14-foot rollup doors that fin-
ish the outer/weather in of the
new building.
Volunteer labor will do much
of the interior work hanging
sheetrock and insulating. Indeed
great job to the Sixes River
Rural Taxpayers, Sixes River
Firefighters and the River Rural
Fire board. for the needed sta-
tion up Sixes River.
Making up the Sixes River
Fire District Board are the fol-
lowing: Chairman Ken Brewer,
Wayne Moore, Alan Heckard,
Kelly Perkins and Chuck
Gunther.
Lastly again we must mention
all this is made possible by the
Hall Brothers of Sixes donating
the land to site this new building
on..
ʻWilly Wonkaʼ play in Bandon has Langlois member in cast
New Artists Productions has brought Roald
Dahl’s timeless story of the world famous candy
man Willy Wonka to life in Roald Dahl's Willy
Wonka Junior at the Sprague Community Theater
beginning April 17. The show will have a two-
weekend run. The play’s. Augustus Gloop is
played by Langlois’s Sawyer Heckard, who is an
enormous eater from Frankfurt, German.
Augustus, who loves chocolate almost as much as
Wonka, and his mother (Kinzi Silburn) sing I Eat
More to explain how Augustus has been carefully
trained for the task of eating lots of food.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for Senior
Citizens, and $5 for students. Roald Dahl's Willy
Wonka Junior will be presented on the Sprague
Theater stage April 24 – 26. Curtain times are
7:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, 2:00 pm on
