The family nurse practitioner will be Patty Savage from Gold Beach. Services include; physicals, chronic and acute illness diagnosis, minor injury treatment, health educa- tion, prescription medications, mental health referrals, and referrals for health care services not offered in SBHC. Before a student can be treated, a permission slip (sent with report cards and available at the office) must be signed by gaurdian. You can either schedule an appointment or stop in. By Kaylynn Reab Did you know there are 1 to 3 out of every 1,000 babies that are born with hearing loss? I did not know that either. Hearing loss can also develop later in life. You are wondering how is it hear- ing loss can develop later in life? About 7 to 10 million people who have hearing loss, lost their hearing from loud noise. When you are listening to your IPod or mp3 with earplugs or have the radio in your vehicles on high volume for long periods of time you stand a good chance of permanently damaging your hearing. Other loud noises that can contribute to hearing loss include motorcycles, gunfire, power tools, leaf blowers, and power saws. About 28 million American people have hear- ing loss or deafness in some way. There are devices that can help some hearing im- paired. Some of the devices that are available is the wire- less Fm listening system. Another device is a Direct Audio Input (DAI) is allows to directly connected to an audio source like CD player, IPod, or mp3. There is also the Telecoil “T-coil” referred to sometimes as Telephone Coils, which is used for the telephone. The nice thing about a wireless FM listen- ing system is that it lets a teacher talk into a hand held microphone. This transmits the sound of the teacher’s voice directly to the student’s hearing aids. Therefore, the student can hear the teacher and not the classroom noise.
