North Curry '•P O U T ORFORD » S H F S » L A N G L O IS BPW Club Holds Buffel Supper The Business and Profes­ sional Women’s club of Port Orford met with their members In Gold Beach on Tuesday even­ ing for a buffet supper pre­ pared and served by the pre­ sident, Evelyn Moir, assisted by her daughter, at the Masonic hall at 7 p.m. Bertha Riley, MargaretWatt, Madelaine Larson, Kathryn Mc­ Pherson, Ronnie Rucker, Elsie Kay, Mabel Holt, Jeanne Chris­ tie and Marge Barrett were guests. The proposed budget for 1969- 70 was prepared by the commit­ tee, Geneva Tucker, Betty Bit- elaw and Bertha Bergstrom, and accepted by the members. It was announced that the monthly letter sent to each club and state officer by the state president, Dr. Ruth Beb- ber of Ashland, is called “ A Receipe for What’s Cooking in Oregon B. P. W.” A skit called «Just What is This B. P. W.?” was presented by Louise Hahn, Mrs. TUcker and Mrs. Bigelow. Marge Barrett, correspon­ dent and photographer for Rual- ite and the Coos Bay World, was the speaker and answered the question "How Important Is News Coverage to Your Club?” The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Galley in Port Orford, at 7 p.m. The topic will be « Personal Devel­ opment” . HELP PAINT HOUSE Mrs. Wilbur Sypher of Lang­ lois went to Eugene last week to help her sister and family, the Charles Doanes, paint their house. The Doanes brought her back on Thursday evening. the funeral of his brother, Frank Tiedemann, Friday. Also two of his sisters who live in Port­ land, Mrs. Elsie Raffenserager and Minnie Alden were present for the service. Three other sisters live in Iowa and were unable to attend. ATTEND WEDDING On Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Herb Geer attended the wedding of her great-nephew In Springfield. On Sunday the Geers attended baptismal services for their grandson, Dennis Conser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Conser (Mary Lee Geer) in Springfield. Godparents for the little boy were his aunt, Joyce Geer and his uncle, Doug Conser of Jun­ ction City, who are both twelve years of age. Mrs. John Mlkulecky, Mrs. Geer’s mother, came home with them from Coos River. Their daughter, Joyce, will visit at the Conser home in Springfield for two weeks. FROM EUGENE Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Moore of Stone- sypher road were Mrs. Esther Harrington of Eugene and her sister from Iowa. Mrs. Harrington is a former substitute teacher in the I ang- lois grade schools and is well known in the community. A newphew of the Moores, John Ellesson and hiswifefrom North Bend, were recent visit­ ors at their home. FROM SELMA Mr. and Mrs. Dale Tucker, Selma, visited his mother, Mrs. Barbara Tucker and the Hat- maker family last week. VEIT STRAINS Spending last weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Strain in Langlois were Mrs. Strain’s mother, Mrs. Sadie Prindel from Eugene, and Mrs. Prindel’s friend, Mrs. Chap­ man. On August 2 and 3 tlie 8 et 40 held their 37th annual state convention at Pony Village Motor Inn in North Bend. This is an affiliate of the American I eeion Auxiliary. One of the big projects of the 8 et 40 is the prevention and care of cystic fibrosis and tuberculosis in children. Members of Coos and Curry Salons 309 and 630 were hosts for the convention. Mrs. Edith Mirrasoul was in charge of reg­ istration an»l arrangements. Former presidents of local Auxiliaries were in attendance at the convention and several were in attendance from Curry County. Calif., are clearing their property in the Silver Springs area and are getting it ready to build their home to move into as soon as they sell their property in California. VEIT PARENTS Mrs. George D. Sanders and son, Jody, were up from Wil­ letts last week to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Savage of Port Orford. RETURNS TO ASHLAND Connie Guerin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Guerin of Langlois, has returned to Ashland after spending two weeks with her parents. She expects to work in Ashland until college begins. Port Orford News, Thursday, August 14, 1969—3 IN HOSPITAL Guests at the homeof Mr.and Mrs. Ed Hansohn In Port Or­ ford recently were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hogard from Los Angeles, Calif., and their dau­ ghter, Marian. They visited a week at the Hansohn and then returned home taking the Han- sohns with them. After a visit in Los Angeles the Hansohns returned to Port Orford with a load of furniture and found that her father, De Witt Barkley, was in Sacred Heart hospital in Eugene after having a heart attack. She was glad to report that he is at home and improving. Mrs. Hansohn left for Port­ land on August 12 to enter the University of Oregon hospital in Portland where she is sched­ uled for two major surgical op­ erations. She expects to be there for a month.
