On the Fourth of July they attended the 84th birthday party fo r her grandmother In Princeton, W. Va., where about 100 relatives met fo r the occasion. On the tr ip East, the Lam berts visited the Elsenhower NEW BUSINESS open in Port Orford is Molly M alone's, fea turing seafoods, coffee and snack items, and located ad ja c e n t to Battle Rock State Park. Operators are Mrs. Carol Terp, Nlrs. Darragh Hildreth and Mrs. Gwen ELls. CANASTA PLAYED The Three Table Canasta club was hosted by Ollie Britton at her home in Denmark July 16. The players were Mrs. Mary B ra zil, Mrs. Lolita Myers, Mrs. F lo r e n c e Sonderman, M rs. Mabel Edstrom, Mrs. Geri Preston, Mrs. Edna Peterson, Mrs. Gladys Petok, Mrs. Echol Nutt, Mrs. Emma Schelske, Mrs. Mildred H ill, and Erma Wagner. Honors went to Mrs. Myers, Mrs. Britton and Mrs. Preston. Strawberry shortcake and coffee were served by the hos tess. DAUGHTER RETURNS Linda Billings, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Billings of Sixes, flew home from B e ll ingham, Wash., after visiting with her friend, Pattle Belden, for more than a week. EYES INJURED Roland Olsen, son of Mrs. Haymond McLeod, was a re cent guest at the McLeod home from Rosemead, Calif. At the McLeod family picnic which was held on July Fourth Leslie McLeod of Two Mile was burned in his eyes by a m ilita ry type fla re . He was rushed by Mercy plane to Port land where it Is reported that only the outer layer of his eye balls was affected and it is believed that he w ill not lose his sight. AT FAMILY REUNION Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cuatt of Sixes have Just returned from the Cuatt family reunion in Grandview, Wash., which was attended by close members of Cuatt’ s family, brothers, sis ters, nieces and nephews, a total of 42. One nephew had been in Alas ka fo r 27 years and was get ting acquainted again with his relatives. He wasonhlshoney- moon, having married in Texar kana, A rk., and was returning to the home where he was born in Bird City, Kan. The Cuatts picked and can ned 50 quarts of cherries to bring home with them, as well as 50 quarts of home-canned asparagus. They w e re gone 10 days on the vacation trip . COUSINS VISIT Coming to v is it Mrs. Phyllis Smith in Port O rford last week were her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Arthus H oltz,from Racine,Wls. They were returning from a vacation tr ip to Cal'fornia, New Mexico, Arizona, Mexico and other southern areas, traveling with their tra ile r and had v is it ed state and national parks had many other places of Interest. IN CALIFORNIA Mr. and M rs. Jack Smith and fam ily and his mother, Phyllis Smith, went to California fo r a two and a-half week vacation and stayed at the home of her parents, M r. and M rs. L . H. Rusk, in W hittier, Calif. The Jack Smiths visited her grand mother, aunt and uncle and friends in Corona, C alif., also her brother-in-law and sister, M r. and M rs. Alton Dalton, in W hittier. They spent the Fourth with them. Of course th e ir trip Included a v is it to Disneyland and they made the mistake of staying on Huntington Beach too long and suffered with sunburn. Laura Smith, in Hollywood. memorial in Abilene, Kan., and on the return trip took a boat ride through the Okefenokee Swamp In Waycross, Ga., stop ped at the Alamo in San An tonio, Tex., visited the Yuma T e rrito ria l Prison In Yuma, A riz ., and came through Death Valley by the southern route, enjoying the many unusual feat ures of that part of the country, then through Los Angeles and home. They moved to this area in 1962 and had made a trip In 1964 and were glad to return again this year. They made the trip in a station wagon and on the way home stayed only three nights In a motel. 1800's, as soon as the har vests were finished everyone In Sherman County would hitch their teams to covered wagons and everyone would spend one week driving to the Meto lius where they would camp fo r a week and then take the third week to return home. This was their annual vacation and out of It came the name “ Camp Sherman.” The Meades went fir s t to Salem on their vacation trip this year to attend the wed ding of a cousin and then on to Baker to v is it friends, return ing to Springfield to v isit their daughter. ATTEND REUNION M r. and Mrs. Don Sheffield of Port O rford spent their va cation visiting relatives In Ore gon and Washington, going firs t on June 29 to a reunion In Mossyrock, Wash., at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, M r. and M rs. Clarence Davis. With mostly relatives present and just a few Invited friends the attendance at the reunion was 107. The Sheffields spent the fir s t week visiting in Lewis County, Wash., returned home to Port Orford fo r a few days, and then went to Medford to v is it his aunt, taking his son, Roger, and his dad, Frank Sheffield, with them. Last weekend they went to Harlen, Ore., to v is it friends. Their trip was enhanced by the purchase of a new pickup In Portland. SMITH GUESTS V isito rs at the home of M r. and M rs. Owen W. Smith in Langlois last week were M r. and Mrs. Leroy Newton from Cres cent City, C alif. They visited other friends while in this area. COUSINS VISIT M r. and M rs. Bob Kent from Portland were guests at the Newton Haga home on their way back from a trip to Los An geles, Calif. The Kents are cousins o f. the Haga fam ily. Wednesday visito rs at the Langlois home of M r. and Mrs. Alan Haga were her grand mother, M rs. Everett Black and her sister, M rs. Tom Sinclair of Coquille. VISIT HAWAII Answering the telephone with DAUGHTER VISITS M r. and Mrs. Ernest Hat- maker of Langlois were happy to have a v ls ltfro m their daugh ter, Mrs. Dennis Rice (Rosalie Hatmaker) and baby daughter, from Everson, Wash. Mrs. Dan Boone (Ruby Hatmaker) and children came up from Gold Beach to v is it with her sister, whom she had not seen fo r some time. Langlois visited in M yrtle Point on Sunday with her son, W illiam Tucker and fam ily. HAS OPERATION Ed Bigelow of Port Orford had surgery on his leg In Sacred Heart hospital in Eugene last week. M rs. Bigelow brought home home on Saturday and he is recovering very nicely. Thomas Meade of Port Orford have returned from a vacation trip to “ old home te rrito ry ” in Eastern Oregon where they found the h ills and fields green and beau tifu l which is unusual for this time of year. Mrs. Meade Is a pioneer of that area and told of the nam ing of Camp Sherman on the Metolius River. In the late “ Aloha, frie n d ” are M r. and M rs. Alva H arry of Floras Lake who flew to Hawaii from San Francisco, C alif., June 28 fo r a vacation of two weeks. They visited most of the islands where visitors are allowed and Mrs. Harry finds it hard to describe the beauty and wonder of It a ll.
