Voss reported net operating earnings for the period ending June 30 totaled $7, 168, 378 as compared with $5, 605, 241 a year ago. The record earnings figure isequivalentto$2.25 per share compared with $1. 77 for the first half of 1968, which re flected the federal surtax and was adjusted for a 122 per cent stock di vident paid in March of that year. Deposits, loans and total re sources also continued to soar to new highs. Deposits on June 30 totaled $1, 628, 362, an in crease of $198, 465, 466, or 14 per cent, over the mid-year fig ure of $1,429,539,896 recorded in 1968. The bank's 117 statewide of fices reported loans outstanding of $1, 148,429,987, a gain of $208, 572, 249, or 22 per cent, over th e previous m id -y ear total of $939, 857,736. Total resources rose to $1, - 864,478, 077. The Port Crfard branch re ported deposits of $3, 602, 125 and loans of $646,143 as of June 30, according to G.B.Rush, man ager. Comparable totals for the branch a year ago were $2, - 821, 037 in deposits and $690, 194 in loans. Sewer Bid Awarded Assessor Charles Fitzhugh of Curry county, today reminded property owners and taxpayers that the 1969 State Legislature passed a law providing, for this year only, that jiersans or firms who failed to apply for certain property t a x exemptions for 1969-70by theApril 1 deadline may apply up to and including November 1, 1969. Four classes of exemptions are involved; literary, benevo lent and scientific institutions; disabled veterans a n d unre married widows; commercial facilities u n d e r construction; and senior citizen residences. The assessor suggests that any taxpayer who would be eligible to file under this special law make his application between now and August 15. This will enable the assessor to allow the exemption on the original as sessment roll, which he starts preparing after that date. In this way, extea trouble can be avoided for both the tax payer and the assessor in cor recting the roll after it is writ ten, and make unnecessary a re fund of taxes paid. It is emphasized that a tax payer must apply for the ex emption. It will not be given automatically. Gump, construc tion engineer from the super visor's office of the Siskiyou National Forest, has opened a resident engineer's office i n Port Orford located at the Mc Cool building, Sears Catalog Store, across from the Pacific Super Market. Arlie Fox of Portland is con structing five miles of Forest road,No.326,from Highway 101 east to the forest. This is gener ally along the alignment of the old Grassy Knob boundary. The road will be two lanes and at the am pie tian of the five miles the county will take over. Gump's duties include ap proving of Fox's work and to help him with the project. Gump has inspector David Dotts and a survey party headed by Mike Lew ell yn. Fox plans to have the job completed by November 1 of this year.
