Camp Humdinger Set For Curry An important new recreation al additon to southwestern Ore gon and Curry county is the new camping program sponsored by the Southwest Oregon Commun ity ActionCommittee,Inc. early last spring. This program is designed to give children aged 8 to 16 a one week camping experience which would otherwise be de nied them due to the economic needs of their families, all of whom are low-income. The camp was located about 12 miles northeast of Allegany on the Millicoma river. A total of 465 children took part over the eight-week camping period, and 86, or 18 percent, were from Curry county. A federal grant of $7400 was obtained from the regional of fice of OEO in San Francisco, and the balance of money and physical supplies were dona ted locally. The cooperation of the public, especially in Coos county was fantastic. Much of the credit for this is due to the leadership of Dick Brown f the Coos county extension service, who proved himself a real o r ganizational spark-plug. A set of colored slides is being shown by Jim Smith, as sistant director of the CAP agency, and as a result, much greater interest is being gen erated in Curry county awl more cooperation and donations are expected for the roming sea son. A total of $60.00, several crates of cabbage and a quan tity of noodles were collected tors ofCamping Unlimited, Inc., in Curry.
