The Prehistoric Gardens is an educational exhibit recom mended by “ Life” and many other nationally-known maga zines, and offers a variety of entertainment to the traveler. Anyone who appreciates the beauty of a rain forest will en joy a stroll through the Gar dens, and anyone Interested In prehistoric animals will find the reconstructions both en tertaining and educational. STAY Located on the southern Ore gon Coast Highway 101, midway between historic Port Orford and Gold Beach, the Prehis toric Gardens is one of the most unusual tourist attrac tions In the world; for here In Oregon’s rain forest is re created a "lost world” of life- size replicas of the dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals among the primitive plants that grow so profusely In this area, and this combination of life like replicas and primitive ground cover makes It literally a prehistoric garden . . . a land of long ago. Here you may see many of the weird forms of animal life that disappeared from the face of the earth over 70 million years ago, and as you stroll through the Gardens, among the luxuriant fe;ns and huge moss-covered trees, you will seem to be transported back through time to the age when monster reptiles ruled th e earth. Their size and shape are based on the measurements of the mounted fossil skeletons dis played In the larger museums, and their outward appearance is based on the paintings and resotrations of world-famous paleontologists. A d d itio n a l forms are being constructed In the rain forest that com prises the Prehistoric Gardens, and as these replicas are com pleted, more of the area will be opened to the public. These Rain Forests are dif ferent from other forested areas, and are due to several localized conditions; a mild cli mate, protection from the pre vailing winds, rich soil and an exceptionally heavy rainfall. In this area the temperature seldom drops below freezing, and our average rainfall is over 6 1/2 feet per year, and some years the total rainfall is nearly 10 feet.
