Rehearsal for the wedding was held following the dinner^ North C u r r y • POUT ORFORD • S IK ES » L A N G L O IS At Convention On Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. A1 Krlbs of Port Orford □rove to Roseburg to attend the 77th annual Christian En deavor convention of Oregon. By noon on Saturday, 1144 young People had registered for the convention and several hundred more were expected to arrive before the last session Sunday. Vonda Kay VanDyke, Miss America of 1965, was the prin cipal speaker for these sessions and having faced nearly every Problem that young people meet today she told the group how to live a Christian life no mat ter what they meet. She was able to doubly Impress some of the points she wanted to make by having a “ s e s s i o n with Curly Q ", her ventriloquist’s dummy. Besides being a very p r o f i c i e n t ventriloquist she sings beautifully, Is a TV and radio personality and a writer. Two hundred of her books were sold at the convention and sev eral hundred recordings and on Friday morning she was Inter viewed by a TV station and two radio stations. The next convention of Ore gon Christian Endeavor will be held in Eugene during spring vacation in 1970. SPEAKS ON TAX On Thursday night the Sen ior Citizens of Gold Beach had a dinner meeting and Clarence Brooks of Langlois was guest speaker, giving by request of his vast store of knowledge of the Sales Tax and his reasons for o p p o s in g It. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Bray. On Friday night Mr. and Mrs. Brooks attended the meeting of the Chetco Grange In Brook ings where the 3rd and 4th de grees were exemplified In full form for a large class who had been given the 1st and 2nd degrees at a previous meeting. VISIT PARENTS Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lumsden of Coos Bay and two children spent last weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Belden, In Port Orford. On Sunday the two children returned to Coos Bay with their parents for a special program and then returned on the bus Monday to spend spring vacation with their grandparents. Denmark with Barbara Donald son, Kathy Krlck and Peggy Jensen as hostesses. SUNSET MEETS The Sunset Garden club met Friday, March 14, at the home of Mrs. E. C. Zastera at Sixes. Mrs. Lester Hill was co-host ess. There were 10 present for the study on "Soil-sweet or acid" and "Which plants are suitable for this area?" The next meeting will be at the home of Echol Nutt, with Kay Neal as co-hostess. There will be an Easter hat parade and a study of orchids. Portland; also their daughter, Edith, who Is an airline stew ardess. They met her at the airport In North Bend on Tues day and she returned to Salt Lake Friday. Emmet Kunow of Ashland, a school mate of Miss Clarkes, was also a guest at the Clarke home while she was home. He will graduate from college this month. MITCHELL GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. Keri Martin, son-in-law and d a u g h te r (Ellen) of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mitchell of Port Orford, and their guest, Mrs. K a th le e n Jones, all of Portland, were guests at the Leo Mitchell home from Friday to Monday. MRS. WOLFORD MOVES Mrs. Grace Wolford, form erly of Sanders Cleaners, has moved to West Pittsburg, Calif. Her son, Alfred, and his wife came from the southern city Saturday and moved her fur niture. She will be making her home with them. FROM COLORADO A visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ruppert Ward in Port Orford on Tuesday was their son-in-law, Joe Monson, from Montrose, Colo. He and his brother were In Portland and Coos Bay on business and took a plane home from Port land on Friday. They are In the lumber business in Colo rado. BACK ACRES MEET Back Acres Garden club met at the home of Eva Johnson March 5, with Verena Noble as co-hostess. The program was "E aster Ideas", presented by Anona Robinson and Mary Brazil gave a presentation on spring plant ing. Helen Dooray was a guest. HAS SURGERY Ed Seelye of Port Orford had major surgery at the Ban don hospital Tuesday. That evening his daughter, Mrs. Nor man Reynolds, and son, came from Prineville, staying with him until Thursday. His son, Ed J r., of Portland, camedown Saturday and hoped to take his Dad home with him. ON SICK LIST Fred Savage, Port Orford city employee, is another vic tim of the flu. At this writing he Is recovering slowly and will have been off work at least two weeks. Oral Marlow Dies Oral Marlow, son of the late Floyd and Mabel Marlow of Sixes, died In Akron, Ohio, on his 48th birthday, March 8, after an Illness of 14 months. Survivors Include his wife, Ada, of Cuuahoga Falls; daugh ters, Paulette Dorden and Sue Smith of Akron, Ohio;brothers, Henry Marlow, Leslie Walkup of Akron; sisters, Mrs. Grant (Myra) Kerber of Missouri and Mrs. Michael (Cheryl) Wood of Newark, Calif., cousins, Ralph and Russell Hall of Coos Bay and North Bend. WITH MOTHER Mrs. John Ellis of Langlois spent last week in Reedsport where her mother, Mrs. Ruby Sherych, is very seriously 111 in the hospital. BREAKS TOOTH Ray Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. O rris Smith of Port Or ford, fell at school before spring vacation and broke the tip from a front tooth. His parents took him to Coos Bay and had a cap put on it. He plays trom bone and Is hopeful that this will not interfere with that. VISIT EDWARDS On Tuesday of lastweekM rs. Agnes Foster spent thedaywith Mr. and Mrs. George Edwards, in Langlois. VISIT JENSENS Judy Bekebrede and two daughters, and Jenny Jensen, are guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jensen, Denmark, during spring vaca tion. TONSILS REMOVED Carol and Candy Marr of Langlois had tonsillectomies at the hospital in Gold Beach on Friday of last week. They had a little trouble at first but are now recovering nicely. The girls are students at Bandon High School. FROM CALIFORNIA Dr. and Mrs. Fred Seward and daughter, Ann, of Liver more, Calif., were guests of Joanne Kreutzer in Langlois, March 14. Dr. Seward is a physicist for the Atomic Energy* Commission and Mrs. Seward and Mrs. Kreutzer were class mates at St. Helen’s Hall In Portland. BROTHER VISITS The brother and sister-in- law of Mrs. Barbara Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. John Breazeale from Medford, were visitors with her on Tuesday. They are taking a short vacation dur ing spring vacation. She is cook in one of the schools.
