My description of that firs t snowfall when apparently not one single flake of the white stuff descended west of High way 101 S but plastered the h ills heavily to the east of the highway, was truthful in every detail; however, due to a misunderstanding concerning tlie filin g of my copy in ad vance of publication which oc curred between ye editor and this scribe, the a rticle re garding that firs t snowfall ap peared in p rint a week o r more after the big snows blanketed both Coos and C urry counties. So, naturally, the readers of this column-having forgotten that fir s t snow, imagined that I had reference to the “ big event” . In other words, re calling to memory that old song entitled: “ Everybody Was Out Of Step But J im ,” it appears that in the case of the two snow storm s, and which I dweltupon, that it really proved to be that everybody was out of step but Lans, and which I must admit, was indeed a very rare occur ence, to state the least. What really occurred was that the readers became confused re garding the two snowfalls; they apparently entirely forgot the firs t one—who can blame’ em fo r doing so— ? and con centrated upon the BIG and dis astrous one which occurred the week following the one I wrote about. properly. Sorry to take up so much space in order to c la rify tlie m atter in question, but con sidered doing so, a matter of self defense-even one of self preservation on my p a rt-fo r who knows but that some reader believing me to be really off my rocker, due to his mis interpretation of the subject, might feel it his duty to summon a squad of those white suited guys equipped with big butter fly nets, in order to take me out of circulation. . .believing me really to be completely and entirely off my rocker. So now let there be peace between our houses, fellow sportsmen and readers in general. A BREAK FOR THE STEELHEAD There’ s not an existing doubt whatsoever, that the escapageof steelhead in all coastal streams during the winter months, in volving their migration up stream to th e ir spawning grounds, w ill prove of a very beneficial nature to tlie future propagation of such fish-an in creased propagation conducted on a large scale, and due to their upstream migration being of a steady, and at tim es, of an interrupted nature due to the inability of anglers to register catches during such migrations and further due to the adverse water conditions that fo r days at a time prevented the taking of the steelies, by anglers in general. It really proved to be a break fo r the garney fight ing, silve r scaled w a rrio rs from tlie waters of the Pacific. More power to them!.. .and may they propagate to untold num bers during their spring mi gration back to the salty waters from whence they came. “ Bad weather conditions, due to the heavy snowfall, generally contributed to an extremely slow start economically In Feb ruary fo r the South Coast Area,” reports Edward J.K on- ka, manager of the Coos Bay office of the State Department of Employment. “ Tlie overall economic and employment situation Improved until fa irly satisfactory levels were reached at tlie month's end,” he continued.
