Why Did Jesus Come?
Three good reasons will be
the limit of out thinking today.
First of all, Jesus was born
to represent God on earth.
Luke, who gathered his infor-
mation either directly from the
Apostles or Mary herself,
states that the c o n c e p tio n
of Jesus was God in person
coming to this earth. He says,
“ The angel said to Mary, "The
Holy Spirit shall come upon
thee and the power of die most
High shall overshadow thee;
wherefore also the holy thing
which Is begotten (conceived)
shall be called the Son of God’” .
God himself intervened to im
plant His own sinless blood
into the veins of His only be
gotten Son. Jesus was called
Emmanual, meaning God is with
us.
Secondly, Jesus came to give
His blood as our atonement for
sin. The apostle John said,
“ Behold the Lamb of God that
takes away the sins of the
world” (John 1:29). His sinless
blood did what the imperfect
blood of bulls and goats could
not do as sacrifices.
Paul writes in II Corinthians
5:21. “ Christ who knew no sin
God made to be sin on our
behalf, that we might become the
righteousness of God in Him” .
Since all have sinned and fall
short of the glory of God every
person needs this sinless One
to atone for his or her sins.
Thirdly, Christ came to lift
us up to the place where He
The phrase, “ child Is born” ,
speaks of the body God pro
vided for Hls Son through the
virgin Mary. The phrase, "a
son Is given” , reveals the fact
that God the Son was not born,
but given. In other words, the
eternal Son of God was given
a human body to come Into this
world to be our Savior from
sin. The angel of the Lord
announced to Joseph this mir
aculous event In these words:
“Joseph, thou son of David,
fear not to take unto thee Mary
thy wife: for that which Is con
ceived in her Is of the Holy
Ghost. And she shall bring forth
a son, that thou shalt call his
name JESUS; for he shall save
his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:20,21. This Is why
He came, and this is what we
commemorate at this season
of the year.
Other prophecies are too
numerous to mention here, but
they prophesy of the time Christ
was to be born, the circum
stances surrounding His incar
nation, important persons who
would bring Him gifts, and so
on. All were fulfilled in minut
est detail. All this assures us
of the fact that God’s Word,
the Bible, is true. The Lord
Jesus is the only Savior from
sin, and there Is no other way
for man to have forgiveness and
cleansing from sin.
As there were prophecies
concerning the first coming of
our Lord Jesus into the world,
so there are prophecies that
SANTA visits w ith youngsters at elem entary schools concert.
Happy holidays to
all of you from all
of us this year.
is. He said, “ If I be lifted
up (as He was on the cross)
I will draw all men to me,”
meaning that those He lifts
up will find it possible to live
In newness of life.
The greatest gift you can
give to yourself or anyone else
is the gift of Jesus Christ as
your Saviour. In I John 5:12
it says, “ He that hath the Son
hath the life. He that hath not
the Son of God hath not life.”
These things are written that
you may know that you can have
eternal life if you will accept
this wonderful gift.

“ In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with
God; all things were made
th r o u g h him, and without him
was not anything made that
was made . . . And the Word
became flesh and dwelt among
us, full of grace and truth; we
have beheld his glory, glory
as of the only Son from the
Father.” John |j l - 3 ,14.
Words are curious little an
imals, and they p o s s e s s tre
mendous power. With them
we can build, mend, heal, up
lift shout and communicate all
sorts of positive, b e n e f i c i a l
ideas and feelings to people.
We can also slander, destroy,
hurt and degrade people by
those c a r e l e s s , thoughtless
words. At any rate they are
a powerful means of commun
ication whether it be for good
or bad.
John was telling us some
thing very important hereabout
communication when he used the
metaphor, "The Word” , as he
talked about our Lord Christ.
It is actually a preposterous
story to believe that God came
to this earth as a human being.
In a day when science can and
does explain so many of the
enigmas of life, this story of
God becoming human becomes
hard for many people to swal
low. However when one looks
at it this way, that God want
ed to communicate something
to us, and to do this he had to
speak our language, to become
as we are to communicate with
us, then its not so prepost
erous. In fact this means of
communicating his great love
and concern and forgiveness for
us and all men everywhere
makes a lot of sense.
Christ is the Word, the com
munication of God, communi
cating His love and mercy to
all. We call this God’s grace.
No strings are attached; wehave
only to open up our hearts this
Christmas to receive His Word.

Purpose of Christmas
by Rev. Daniel Hager
Hie purpose of the Christ
mas season is to celebrate the
fulfillment of God’s promise
of the Savior to sinful man.
Ever since our first parents
Adam and Eve, sinned and
thereby plunged the human race
into sin, God promised that in
the fulness of time He would
send His Son into this world
to be our sacrifice and sub
stitute for sin. This promise
was fulfilled over nineteen hun
dred years ago. In the Bible
we read: “ But when the ful
ness of time was come, God
sent forth his Son, made of a
woman, made under the law, to
redeem them that were under
the law, that we might receive
the adoption of sons.” Gala
tians 4:4,5.
The coming of our Savior
and Lord Jesus Christ into this
world fulfilled many pro
phecies. One of them is that
He was to be born of a vir
gin. Isaiah, some seven hun
dred and forty two years be
fore Christ, says: “ Therefore
the Lord himself shall give you
a sign; behold, a virgin shall
conceive, and bear a son, and
shall call his name Immanuel,”
Isaiah 7:14. The fulfillment of
this prophecy is given in
Matthew 1:18; "Now the birth
of Jesus Christ was on this
wise: when as his mother Mary
was espoused to Joseph, before
they came together, she was
found with child of the Holy
Ghost.”
Another fulfilled prophecy is
found in the same passage of
Isaiah 7;14, where we read that
His name was to be called
“ Immanuel.” Die fulfillment
is given in Matthew 1:22,23:
“ Now all this was done, that it
might be fulfilled which was
spoken of the Lord by the Pro
phet, saying, Behold, a vlrgir
shall be with child, and shall
bring forth a son, and they shall
call his name Emmanuel, which
being interpreted is, God with
us.” In this prophecy and ful
fillment we note that Jesus
Christ Is not just a man, but
God manifest In the flesh.
Another prophecy given about
seven hundred and ten years
before Christ gives the place
where Jesus was to be born.
Micah 5:2; “ But thou, Beth
lehem Ephratah, though thou
be little among the thousands of
Judah, yet out of thee shall
he come forth unto me that is
to be ruler in Israel; whose
goings forth have been from of
old, from everlasting.” The
fulfillment is found in Matthew
2;l-“ Now when Jesus was born
in Bethlehem of Judea in the
days of Herod the King, be-
hold, there came wise men
from the east to Jerusalem .”
There these wise men Inquir
ed as to the birthplace of this
King, and were told by the
priests and scribes that it was
Bethlehem. We note again that
this prophecy not only gives
the birthplace of the Savior, but
also that He was from “ of old,
from everlasting” . This again
speaks of the deity of the Lord
Jesus.
The prophecy of Isaiah 9:6,
given some seven hundred and
forty two years before the ful
fillment, states: “ For unto us
a child Is born, unto us a son
Is given: and the government
shall be upon his shoulder: and
his name shall be called Won
derful, Counsellor, The Mighty
God, The Everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.”
tell us that the Lord Jesus is
coming again. Die Lord Jesus
Himself said, in Saint John 14:
"I go to prepare a place for
you and If I go and prepare
a place for you, I will come
again, and receive you unto my
self; that where I am, there
ye may be also.”
In Acts 1:11 angels said to
the disciples: “ Dils same
Jesus, which Is taken up from
you Into heaven, shall so come
In like manner as ye have seen
him go Into heaven.”
The
Bible again says in 1 Thessal
onians 4:16, 17-“ For the Lord
himself shall descend from
heaven with a shout, with the
voice of the archangel, and
with the trump of God: and the
dead in Christ shall rise first:
then we which are alive and re
main shall be caught up
togetherwith them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord In the air:
and so shall we ever be with
the Lord.”
Few people were prepared for
and expecting the first coming
of our Lord Jesus Christ. But
He camenever-the-less exactly
according to prophecy. There
are many more prophecies con
cerning Hiscomlngagaintotake
the Christian to heaven and to
judge the world. These pro
phecies, too, are being rapidly
fulfilled. Will you be ready
for Him when He comes again?
If not, why not receive this won
derful Savior right now and
make this the happiest Christ
mas of your life?
