Curry Pomona Grange met
at the Ophir Grange hall on
Sat., Dec. 14, beginning at 10:30
a.m. with a potluck dinner at
noon and sessions in the after­
noon, closing about 3 o’clock.
Six
new
members were
obligated by Master William
Webster, and It was announced
that the Fifth degree will be
exemplified in full form on
Jan. 15 at the Chetco Grange
hall in Brookings.
Entertainment was furnished
at the beginning of the after­
noon session by the freshman
girls* quartet trom Pacific High
School who sang "This Land
Is Your Land’’, "Sweetheart
tree” , "Christmas World” ,
"No Man Is An Island” , and
"White Christmas.” The per­
sonnel of the group Is Karen
Peterson and Candace Worth­
ington, sopranos, and Darla
Rowling and Alysa Erickson,
altos. Wayne Merrell, vocal
Instructor for the school In
2CJ, was director and accom­
panist.
There were a total of 57
people present for the meeting,
including the five entertainers,
and 10 from Del Norte Pomona
In California. This group in­
cluded Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pen­
nell, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Harteg,
Sadie Gorbet, Dolly Nanney,
Josephine Bergquist and Elma
B e r q u is t. Mrs. Jones is
Master of the Del Norte
Pomona.
Curry Pomona will meet with
the Sixes Grange on Feb. 1.
CANASTA
The Jinx Canasta club met
at the home of Maude Weir on
Dec. 10. Honors went to Lolita
Myers, Marie Gerhardt and
M aude Weir. G u e s ts were
Jamie S te in m e tz and Rose
Davis.
The Weir home was beauti­
fully decorated for Christmas
and gifts were exchanged.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Marie Gerhardt on
Jan. 14.
HONOR BIRTHDAY
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas
of Port Orford spent Sunday
at a spacious home In the Red­
woods near Crescent City to
help celebrate the 80th birth­
day of Nls Jepson, a former
resident of the Langlois area.
Hostess for the happy oc­
casion was the daughter of Mr.
Jepson and the 150 guests who
were In her home forthelunch­
eon at 1 p.m. were cared for
most graciously. Threegener-
atlons of the family were In
attendance. He and his sons
own and operate a large dairy
farm.

Clarence Zumwalt of Sixes and
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Libby of

Calif., son of Mr. and Mrs.

visited his parents over the
Thanksgiving holiday.

met at the home of Hazel Mc­
Kenzie in Port Orford for their
annual Christmas party andgift

On Thursday afternoon a
group of people met at die Herb
Geer home In Langlois to sack
home-made candy and popcorn
balls to be given to the child­
ren Sunday evening, Dec. 15,
when the Christmas program
was held in the Langlois Com­
munity church.
Those who had a lot of fun
with the project were Mrs. Don
Roth, Mrs. Maryellen Bailey,
Mrs. Margaret Knutson, Mrs.
Bonnie Higgins, Mrs. Lillie
Knutson and Mrs. Agnes Miku-
lecky.
VISITS MOTHER
Glenn Wood of Port Orford
who has been recovering from
back surgery went to Willits,
Calif., to visit his mother, Mrs.
Elizabeth Wood, before return­
ing to his regular work at the
Plywood plant.
DECORATE TREE
The Loins club of Langlois
has added beauty to that section
of the country and Highway 101
again by decorating a Christmas
tree in front of theschool house.
Baby Shower Held
On Thursday evening, Dec.
12, at 8 p.m., Mrs. William R.
Huret of Port O r f o r d enter­
tained with a baby shower for
Patty Sweet. Gerri Huret and
Tippy Hatcher helped with the
serving of the refreshments
which included a cake, made and
decorated by Mrs. Ed Ellis,
carrying out the decor of the
evening.

CONTRACT MEETING
The annual meeting • f the
Contract Bridge unit from Gold
Beach, Port Orford, Crescent
City, Brookings, Coos Bay and
North Bend was held last Sun­
day at the Gold Beach Legion
hall.
New directors elected were
Agda Bickner, Brookings; Ge­
neva Tucker, Port Orford; Fred
Starkweather, Gold Beach; R.
B. McClure, Crescent City; A.
W. Sweet, North Bend and Betty
Swanson, Crescent City.
Officers elected for the
coming year were: president,

Geneva Tucker; secretary, Es­
ther Conley; second vice pre­
sident, Betty Swanson.
It was voted that all directors
of each club may attend all
directors’ meetings.
Following the business meet­
ing there were ten tables of
duplicate bridge in play with
Brookings club as hosts and the

Visitors with Mrs. Syneva
Lindberg cn Sunday were two
grandsons, Gary Douglas w ho
works for Boeing in Seattle, and
Dcnald Ctmsby, ho is now sta­
tioned at Fort Lewis, Wash. He is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. James
Ormsby (Rachel Lindberg) of
Seattle, ind came to Port Ckford
to visit his grandmother before
entering the Army.
HOLD CHRISTMAS PARTY
The Twi-Lighters Tops club's
Christmas party was held on
Dec. 16, at their new meeting
place.
Secret pals were revealed and
new ones drawn. Refreshments
were served and the door prize
was wen by Gay Masterson. A
gift exchange i. as held by those
present and a gift was sent by
Millie Kenyon.

has been seriously 111 for more
than a year and everyone Is
glad to see her out again.

to hear their son, Dr. Wilbur
Jensen, play the solo part in
"Concerto for B Flat Trumpet
by Franz Haydn” . This was
the first time he had played It
since he was 19 years of age
and the first time his mother
had ever heard him play that
number.

Sypher-Combesf Wedding Held Saturday
In a setting of lovely white
and blue flowers in the pre­
sence of relatives and very
close friends, Harold Sypher
of Langlois claimed Ruth Corn-
best of Port Orford as his
bride on Saturday, Dec. 7, at
2 p.m.
The double ring ceremony
was held in the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints
with Elder Vernon Lords as
officiating minister.
The bride, who was given
away by her son, Tom Corn-
best, wore a blue and white
knit suit with white accessories
and a carnation corsage, and
was attended by Vivian Haft
who wore an olive green suit
with black accessories and a
carnation corsage.
Ray Haft was best man and
Edward and Richard Sypher
were ushers.
Mrs. Gordon B r itto n was
musician and a c c o m p a n ie d

A reception was held in the
church following the ceremony
where Mrs. Edward Sypher cut
and served the wedding cake and

a wedding trip to points north
and are now at home on Floras
Lake road, Langlois.

which they took at the Bandon
High School. They received

L. B. Dees, son-in-law of
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Myers
of Port Orford, will join his
family here for the Christmas
holidays. He is a Seabee career
man who is stationed at Fort
Hueneme, Oxnard, Calif. Mrs.
Dees and their three boys have
been with her parents in Port
Orford most the summer, and
plan to return to Oxnard with
him.
TO HAWAII
Beth McFarland of Eugene,
sister-in-law of Mrs. Forrest
Rosenberry of Langlois, has
been visiting here and left last
week for Hawaii to meet her
husband, Albert McFarland,
who is on furlough from active
duty in Vietnam. He was re­
cently in a hospital in Saigon
after being hit but a grenade
and is okay now. McFarland
is Mrs. Rosenberry’s brother.
