Colson Box 313 Port O ford, Cregon 97465 Angling Rules To Be Set Sport fishermen and other individuals Interested in the fish resources of the state are advised that angling regulations fo r the taking of game fish during the 1969 calendar year w ill be held at the Game Com­ mission’ s P o r t la n d head­ quarters, 1634 Southwest Alder, and w ill convene at 10 a.m. This w ill be the fir s t Sat­ urday public hearing held by the Game Commission in many year to consider hunting o r an­ gling r e g u la t io n s and was brought about at the request of numerous sportsmen and sportsmen’ s groups around the s ta te . These outdoorsmen voiced the comment that many hunters and fishermen were unable to attend meetings held d u r in g weekdays because of work o r other commitments. To accommodate as many per­ sons as possible, the Commis­ sion agreed to hold these hear­ ings on Saturday on a tria l basis. The Commission w ill begin the meeting Friday afternoon November 1, with the afternoon session devoted to regular bus­ iness items. On Saturday, Nov­ ember 2, the Commission w ill hear angling regulation recom­ mendations from the staff as well as recommendations -nd suggestions from the public. Two weeks la te r, on Nov­ ember 16, the Commission w ill reconvene the hearing and con­ sider once again all recom­ mendations and proposals. Fol­ lowing the November 16 hearing, regulations agreed upon w ill be adopted by the Commission and become final fo r 1969. The public Is invited to attend and voice th e ir comments. And fo r this array of game species, well over 400,000 hunt­ ers w ill be in the out-of-doors to enjoy the seasons to come. Phil Schneider, state game d ire c to r, extended his wishes fo r the best of success to this army of hunters but urged a ll outdoorsmen to observe the .highest standards of hunting ethics in their quest fo r game. “ We cannot condone un­ sportsmanlike c o n d u c t,” he said, ‘ ‘ if we are to continue to enjoy the hunting privileges long traditional in Oregon.” He ad­ vised hunters to watch their outdoor manners as insurance to continued public hunting. Game is the property of the state, Schneider advised, but many of the hunting areas are on private property. Hunting on such property Is a p rlv t’ - ; . and i i right, a:o J iu p riv ­ ilege can be withdrawn by the landowner. A hunting license does not authorize treaspass on private property. The d i­ rector urged all hunters to ask the landowner’ s permission fir s t. Hunters are also requested to be extremely careful with campfires aid smoking while In the fields and forests. “ Ore­ gon hunters have an enviable record,” he said, and he urged hunters to continue their fine cooperation to minimize the fire danger.
