JP n rt (O tfn td ä V uiü Thursday, February 29, 1968 Final Disaster Check Received Following the floods of De­ cember 1 9 6 4 -Jan u ary 1965, Curry county submitted appli­ cation to the Office of Emer­ gency Planning fo r financial assistance to repair and rebuild damaged areas. $112, 487. 00 has been pre­ viously received and after all work was completed, inspected and the records audited, it was determined that the amount of $21, 069. 37 was still due Curry county. Mr. I.J. Tatala, district coor­ dinator for the Dept. of Emer­ gency Services, and Mr. George Morey, director, Curry County Emergency Services, delivered a check in this amount to the Curry County Board of Com­ missioners which will close the file for Disaster Relief for Cur­ ry county. Prize Offered For 4th Theme The chamber of commerce will offer a prize of $10 to the winner in a "Name the Theme Contest" for this year's July 4 Celebration, it was decided at the Monday night organizational meeting. The contest opens to­ day, Thursday,Feb. 29, and closes n e x t Thursday, March 7, at 5 p.m. In case of a tie, the earli­ est entry will be declared win­ ner. Entries must be mailed to "Theme Contest", P. O. Box 5, Port Oford, Ore. 97465. Organizations represented at the meeting included PTA, Sor­ ority, B e a c h c o m b e r s , Sixes Grange,)aycees.B. P. W., Rotary and Lions clubs and the cham­ ber. It was voted to hold a child­ ren's parade the afternoon of July 3 and the main parade on the morning of the Fourth. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robinson will chairman th e latter with the PTA sponsoring the children. Besides the popular Indian Village, Battle Rock Pageant and motorcycle hill climb, Jay­ cees said they were also exam­ ining the possibility of holding a four-wheel hill climb contest. JayCettes will operate a food concession. Beachcombers will a g a in sponsor t h e i r annual Square Dance Jamboree on the 4th; the Lions auxiliary will sponsor a cotton candy booth; the Lions will sponsor bingo and probably conduct so m e type of funi- raising button sale and kangaroo court; the BPW will sponsor the Queen contest; Sixes Grange is planning a food concession and the Art Association will work on an arts-craftz-and flower show. Other events discussed were a buckaroo breakfast and salmon barbecue. To help raise funds for the jala fireworks display on the evening of the 4th, the chamber will hold an auction. The city has voted to donate $150 to the fireworks fund. The next general meeting will * announced Arrested For Narcotics A ikookings man was arrested by the Curry County Sheriff's o f f i c e Tuesday and charged with possession of narcotics. % David Scott Cameron, 20, iormerly of Portland, was ap­ prehended as the result of a search of his residence Feb. 13, by county,state and city police during which a quantity of mar­ ijuana was allegedly found. Cameron is being held on $3, 000 bail. State Rep. Rod McKenzie of Sixes announced this week that he w ill file fo r a second con­ secutive term in the State House of Representatives. McKenzie, a Republican, told Port Orford Press he would file this week fo r nomination in the May prim ary as the party’ s candidate in the No­ vember general election. If re-elected, McKenzie w ill be serving his fourth term in the House, having firs t been elected to the Coos-Curry seat for the 1953-55 term. He was appointed to serve In the last regular session of the House as a member of the legislative highway committee and of its subcommittee on recreation and tourism. He was also appointed to the financial affairs committee and on the natural resources committee. A fter being defeated fo r the office by Carl Back in 1964, Rep. McKenzie defeated Back in the 1966 election by a margin of 11,516 to 10,548.
