According to the tally of ap plications received at the Game Commission’s Portland head quarters by the filing deadline, Jtlly 18, a total of 5,674 hunters are eligible to draw for the 845 antelope tags to be Issued this year in seven antelope hunting areas. All antelope areas w e r e heavily oversubscribed, with the odds running as high as 11 to one. Hunters filing for A rea 7 will have about a 50-50 chance of obtaining a tag, while the odds In Area 5 ran about four to one. The odds fell con siderably In other areas ac cording to the popularity of each. In Area 1, hunter odds ran five to one; Area 6, just qver five to one; Area 3, more than rflx to one; Area 4, ten to one;-and Area 2, eleven to one. As eJipected, the Hart Moun tain trophy buck hunt received a flood of applications, with more than 1,100 hunters filing for the 25 trophy buck tags to be issued. These six calves w ill be competing for premiums of $10, $8, $6, $4, $2, and $2. This year there will be seven or eight c a l ves in the 4-H and FFA Calf Scramble which vi 11 be held during the afternoon rodeo on August 12. Salmon Angling With the salmon fishing sea son now In full swing at all coastal points, the Game Com mission issued a reminder to sport fishermen of the coastal rules pertaining to this fishery. In all areas along the coast, anglers are requested to enter the “port or bay” In the spaces provided on their salm on-steel head license when recording their catch. If the angler Is fishing upriver, he should enter the riv er from which the catch is made. The Commission pointed out that residents of Oregon and Washington angling at the mouth of the Columbia and adjacent offshore w aters are governed by the regulations of the state In which they are a resident. This rule applies regardless of the state from which they embark o r land. Nonresident anglers are subject to the li censing regulations of the state from which they embark.
