Most of the group saw the recently-ac quired tim ber and logging op erations for the first time and they looked over the whole area and visited with the people in charge. The trip was made difficult by the fog which caused the men to sit for about seven and a- half hours In the Sitka Airport before they could fly on to Wrangell. Making the trip were Craig Gates, manager; Ethan Clarke, president; Joe Mlchollck, first vice president; Everett Mills, second vice; Bill Shook, sec retary-treasurer; Bill Krlck, Ed Z astera and Jack Waldle. RETURN FROM ZAMBIA Dr. and Mrs. R. B. Bennett, daughter and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Zastera of Port Orford, and their fourcnnaren, have finished their appoint ment with UNESCO and are on their way home. He was a teach e r of physics in the University of Zambia for two and a-half years In the town of Lusaka, and Mrs. Bennett was hired by the department of education in Zambia to make up school tests for the deaf and blind which could be used among the native people. She taught in the vil lages, sometimes flying as far as 500 miles in one direction and 300 miles in the other to reach the pupils in the native schools. On their way home they will visit In Rome and tour Europe for a month, ending their trek at Copenhagen and then flyback to the States over the North Pole. They expect to land In Seattle, • Aug. 23. Dr. Bennett will teach in Central Washing ton State College in Ellensburg next year and will commute to Seattle to continue research work In physics. FRIENDS VISIT Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wilson of Santa Rosa, Calif., visited In Port Orford recently with old-time friends, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Thage. Mrs. Wilson has retired an an employee of the old San Francisco Bank, which is now known as the Western Bank. VISIT OWENSES Mr. and Mrs. Pat Patterson and two daughters from Seat tle, Wash., visited Mr. and Kirs. Clarence Owens of Port Orford last week and then camp ed up Sixes for three days. They plan to return home by way of Oregon Caves and C ra te r Lake. Mrs. Owens visited them in their camp and con tracted a case of poison oak. RUSHES RETURN G. B. Rush, manager of the F irst National Bank of Port Orford, and Mrs. Rush have returned from a trip to Central Oregon and places along the coast. They had a tent-trailer In Tumalo State Park and fish ed in Suttle and Detroit Lakes, also making the trip around the Century Drive and visiting the many lakes and beauty spots on that circuit. They fished at Depoe Bay where they came home with four salmon. SORORITY SEWS ROBES Members of the ESA so ro r ity are busy making 30 robes for the Battle Rock Junior High School chorus and hope to have them finished In time for the first concert. CAMP AT HONEYMAN While camped at Honeyman Park Saturday night, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Woodworth and Scott aixl Mrs. Ruth Moyer of Port Orford were Joined by their daughter, Mickey Wood worthy, and Robert Muse from Portland. Sunday they went to lakeside where they met their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. David Knowles aixl baby, and Mr. and Mrs. David Isham from Roseburg, and all went to the Knowles cabin on Ten mile la k e. HAS SURGERY Diane Henry, 13-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Henry of Port Orford, was rush ed to Curry General Hospital In Gold Beach Sunday night for an emergency appendectomy. She Is recovering nicely. VISIT MRS. BERRY Mrs. Ruth S iarp, niece of Mrs. Hattie Berry of Lang lois, from Fresno, Calif., spent a month with her aunt. Arriving Thursday to visit were Mr, and Mrs. E arl Denny from Dia mond, Mo., another niece and nephew. NEW DAUGHTER Dr. and Mrs. W'llbur Jenaen of Coos Bay have made Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Jensen of Langlois grandparents again with the birth of a f pound, 5 ounce daughter, Saturday. V A O iA O Mrs. Grace Wolford of Port Cleaners In Port Orford was visited over the weekend by her son, Thomas J . Hatfield, and two grandsons, Jim m ie and Billy, from Fremont, Calif. FROM CENTRAL POINT Weekend guests at the Ed Z astera home In P ort Orford were their son and daughter- in-law, Mr. and M rs. Leonard Z astera, and sons, Arlen, Jim mie, J e rry and Donny, of Cen tral Point. FROM BURBANK V isitors at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ada McIntire, and of Mr. and M rs.C larence Hines of Port Orford for the past week have been Mr. and M rs. E. L. Tourney of Burbank, Calif. Mrs. Tourney Is a niece of Hines. VISITS COUSIN Mike Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Owens of P ort Orford, Is enjoying a visit with his cousin, Charles Attwill, from Seattle, Wash. FAMILY VISITS Guosts at the John T. Mas terson home In Port Orford during the past week were Pat rick Masterson, their son, and his family from Roseburg. VISIT MOTHER Guests of Mrs. Gertrude Zumwalt In Port Orford during the past week were her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Zumwalt. VISITS BROTHER M rs. J. B. Phillips of Lang. U la m a more, Calif., where her broth e r, Edgar Wheeler of Santa Rosa, is seriously 111 in the Veterans Hospital. The four sis te rs and three brothers of the sick man were all at the hospital at the same time. SQUARE DANCE NEWS Saturday night, Aug. 5, is regular dance night for the Beachcombers at the Cove, at 9 p.m. HORSE SHOW HE LD Paul Smith of Langlois re ports that the Sheriff’s Posse had a horse show at Brookings last Sunday. HORSE RAISER VISITS Mr. and Mrs. Phil Morrison and daughter, Mary Ann, from RIA r uanou « l w tv c a u a * specialist in the raising of o r chids, even though so young. While visiting with Stryker, he made several trips Into the forest areas and on Snow Cap he found five or six new species of native orchids. Smith home In L a n g l o is , Wednesday. Both families are Interested In raising horses. FROM ROSEBURG Last week, Mrs. Eloise Buss and children from Roseburg visited her parents, Mr. and M rs. Arthur Strain, Langlois. SUNDAY PICNIC Mr. and Mrs. Steve W. Sul livan and three children of Langlois enjoyed a picnic at Bastendorff Beach Sunday. VISIT STRATTONS Mrs. Arnold SpanlolandMrs. Tom Wilson of North Bend were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Stratton oi Langlois. GRANDSON VISITS Last week, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Britton of Langlois were pleased to have Roderick Grif fin, their grandson, and his wife, Joyce, from San Jose, Calif., as guests. A recent guest was 14-year-old Jon Star of and daughter, Stacie,from Mys tic, Conn., recently visited Mrs. Clark’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Britton of Lang lois, enroute to San Diego, Cal., where they are moving. Clarli is in the Submarine Servlet and will soon leave for Sai Francisco.
