OUTI unas PACIFIC HIGH SCHOOL Wfffi »by LANS LAMCVl SSEVl / Have Your Say On Waler Standards BEST BAIT FOR TROVT There Is no doubt but that angleworms and night-crawlers are the best bait used by ang lers In the taking of trout. This especially holds true dur ing early spring fishing. They produce catches more consis tently than all other baits; that Is, with one exception . . . the meat found in the hard or soft shell of the crawfish Is also a very dependable bait. But they are often difficult to ob tain and are a lot harder to collect than either the com mon variety of garden "hackle” or night-crawlers. But any one of the three are more apt than not to produce limit catches In the earlier days of the fishing season. During the fall months and especially during the e a r l y spawning season of both the trout that remain In the lakes and the migration of the sea- runs to the coastal stream s, such fish show a decided pref erence for that old reliable— but messy bait—a gob of fresh salmon eggs. During the entire season, trout offer a challenge to the fly-caster. Different hatches of insects call almost con stantly for a change in pat terns of artlflcal flies that are cast by the disciples of the feathered or hackled lures In an attempt to connect with the trout by what is considered by many—but Indulged In by the minority of Waltonians—to be the most scientific method used in the taking of the elusive trout. Flycasting is truly an art ful manner In which to seek one's lim it of speckled beau ties while casting In either lake or stream . Few expert casters may be found In this cla ss of anglers. Some may devote their entire fishing career while at tempting to master the art, and yet fail to become ^ccqmpllsh- « 8 IWkeMien.
