For the weekend garnet of D ecem ber 16 and 17, between the two schools were lost by thoae free ane-pototert. Both teams shot close to an equal number of basket» during the g a m e , yet each loot a struggle by the num ber of free throws they gave the other team. Friday night was the Pirates' victory. Pacific held on a one basket edge over the visiting Trojans, but capitalized on 21 of the 36 foul shots the Douglas team gave them to pull out their first victory of the season. Sat urday night, on the other hand, Douglat m erely kept up with the Pirate scoring total throughout the game, via 10more foul shots than the Buct, and managed to up-end their challengers to the final moments of the game. PACfflC-DOUGLAS By outscoring Douglas to ev ery quarter, Pacific posted a 57- 48 victory over the visiting Tro jans Friday night. Although the Pirates scored only one mare field goal than Douglas, Pacific capitalized on 21 of the 36 foul shots the Trojans gave them. Rebounds, too, played a vital roie in the outcome of the game. Led by Smokey Storm's 13, the Pirates out-rebowided the Tro- Jans4S-29, giving them 16 more chances to score than Douglas. Add that to seven less turnovers, and t h e Pirates' offense was ready to roll. Smokey Storm, the top re bounder, also earned high point honors for the night, shredding the net for 23 counters. Mike McWilliams and Don Dahrens also shined for the Buct, chalk ing up 12 and 10 points, respec tively. Other Pirate scorers were Charles Bates with nine and J ack Preston with three, Ed Baird collected top scoring honors far Douglas, contributing 17 points for the losers. Baird was followed by Steve Buell w it h seven and Jim Fox, Jerry Dougherty and Bill Murphy with six each. SATURDAY NIGHT Saturday night the Trojans blasted out of a four-point def icit to the final quarter to stun the Pirates 66-48. The Pirates, leading from the second quarter, lost their lead late to the game to a zone press and clock pres sure, cooling their 41 per cent shooting average, giving t h e Trojans a 16 p o i n t winning margin. Douglas scored 46 per cent of their total points to the last quarter. Pirates' top scorer for the third straight game was Storm with 19; McWilliams, 11; Dahrens, 9, Preston, 6; Bates, 3. Trojan top scorers were:Baird, 25; Murphy, 17; Fox, 10. JV BASKETBALL by Scott Rose The Pacific JV team loet the first of two games with Douglas Friday right, Dec. 16, to a hard- fought game that went Into ov ertime twice, to a score of 55-52. The Trojans outshot the Pir ates with a 45 per cent average from the field, to Pacific's 28 per cent. Pacific's scores during the en tire overtime cam e from foul shots.
