Flower Show Slated
The Sixes-Elk Carden club
has slated a flower show Satur­
day and Sunday, August 20 and
21, at the Sixes Grange hall.
The exhibit w ill be open for
viewing fr o m 7 to 9 p. m. on
Saturday, and from noon to 4
p. m. on Sunday.
SURPRISE VISITORS
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Anderson of
Salem made a surprise visit at
the home of Bob and Let Pick­
ett on Tuesday, August 2.
Also, Rae Melcuiu of Shelton,

brothers whom they hadn't seen

received In gifts and grants by
Oregon State University during
the past fiscal year, President
James H. Jensen has announced.
This Is nearly a 60^ increase
over last year's total of some
$8,038,507. In dollars, It is a
$4,735,773 Increase over a year
ago.
Federal funds accounted for
$11,684,288 of the total, with
another $109,090 coming from
state and local governments.
P r i v a t e support totaled
$97 9,902, down from last year’s
total of $1,123,103.
The bulk of the money grant­
ed OSU was for research.
A few of the research pro­
jects engaged In by OSU scien­
tists this past year included
c o m p u t e r memories, reha­
bilitation of forest lands, soil
fertility for vegetables, physi­
cal oceanography In Oregon
shelf waters, improvement of
teaching and learning, and dis­
solved oxygen requirements for
fresh water flsh.
