The Federal Water Pollution Control Administration has a- greed to provide $57,000 toward a $446,860 project to construct an interceptor s e w e r and a pumping station in Springfield. Port Orford will receive $60, 000 and partial financing for an in­ terceptor sewer, pumping station and sludge treatm ent plant coat­ ing an estimated total of $349, - 000. Work has a lrc 'd y started on clearing the area for the treat­ ment plant and lagoon location, Mayor Lloyd Bates said today. The new machine is "equipped with a slide bar on the backhoe enabling straight-line digging in parallel with existing pipes and digging closer to other structures. Bills in the amount of $1, - 676. 07 were approved for pay­ ment. Ticket Box Hit An outgoing ticket deposit box at Humbug State Park was destroyed w h e n hit by a car Monday. According to a report, Clinton L.Tyler, 19,Portland, was enter­ ing the park and went to drive around c a r s at the check-in booth when he was blinded by the sun and failed to see the ticket box between the traffic lanes. Mayor Lloyd Bates and aider- men Herb Thsge,Frank St.Clair, Orris Smith and Blaine Marsh a n d recorder Loraine Haines heard the charges at the 7:30 p, m. meeting. Charges included parking the police caron the left side of the street, wearing uniform collar unbuttoned and not wearing a tie, leaving motor running in an unattended auto, cursing on a public street, that the police car was at the drag races.Windmais­ er went into detail about how the chief "cursed" him on a public street on July 23. After a lengthy discussion, Windmaiser attem pted to get the chief fired by motion but he failed to get a second to the motion to bring it to a vote. St. Clair asked if Windmaiser would switch commissions with h im ; police for license; but Windmaiser refused the sugges­ tion. The commissions are ap­ pointed soley by the mayor and do not need council approval. The mayor asked Windmaiser if he would accept an apology by Hight. He said he would have within 15 minutes after the in­ cident but that It was too late now. Then Windmaiser said that if the council refused to take ac­ tion perhaps he would bring it before the people and publicize such actions. 'The mayor asked him not to do that, saying that that kind of publicity cOuld do no one any good. A tthispoint, Windmaiser said, "if there is going to be no ac­ tion, I move that the m eeting adjourn, ’’ then departed in an apparent angry mood though he was urged to stay by Smith. Present plans call for him to participate in the Curry County Fair Parade at 11 a .m . The par­ ade ends at the fairgrounds and the Governor will spend some tim e at the Republican booth talking to local residents. A luncheon is scheduled for 1 p. m. at the Sunset Motor Inn. The Governor is anxious to have members of all political parties attend. It is hoped that citizens from all parts of the county will be represented. The Governor plans to make a short talk which will be fol­ lowed by a question and answer period. He will then return to the fairgrounds,be introduced to the people in the grandstand, spend same additional time m eeting people at the Republican booth and then drive to Brookings to call on people in that area. Glen Kerber Services Held Glen Kerber, 53, Gold Beach, died Aug.8, In Medford follow­ ing a lengthy illness. Bom April 30, 1913, in Polk County, he was a logging con­ tractor In Curry County for m any years. He was a m ember of the Brookings Elks Lodge, the Port Crford Masons and Hillah T em ­ ple of the Shrine, Ashland. He is survived by his widow, Beulah, Gold Beach; his mother, Rittie Kerber, Monmouthi three sons, Gary C., Port Orford, Rod­ ney E., Cottage Grove, and Jean G., Gold Beach, a daughter, Ar­ lene B eck , Gold Beach; four brothers, Archie and Homer,Gold Beach, Fritz, Monmouth, Clell, Lincoln City; two sisters, Mrs. Cecil Bush, Port Crford, and Mrs. Milo Gage, Lakeside, one grand­ daughter.
