Ray Shaw and daughters were In Ashland dur ing the weekend where their daughter, Nancy, enrolled as a freshman at Southern Oregon College. T h e ir return trip in cluded a visit to C ra te r and Diamond lakes. Others visiting In Ashland during the weekend were M r. and M rs . Dale Bartlett who visited th eir son, Bob, and A1 B erger of Langlois who vis it ed his wife, Jean, a teacher from Langlois taking a summer course at SOC. A ll visitors reported extra warm weather and found the coastal breezes a welcome treat. OUT OF HOSPITAL M rs . Kenneth Belden of Port O rford made a trip to P o rt land last week to bring her granddaughter, Shannon Couch, home. The child has been a patient In Dorenbecker Hos pital the past three weeks. VISIT BROOKSES M r. and M rs . Ren Rundberg were Portland visitors during the weekend and were house guests of M r. and M rs . Chas. Brooks. In Eugene, the Rundbergs vis ited with M r. and M rs . Dick Helmken and fam ily and re turning with them were grand children, Darble, Raymond and Ronnie Helmken who w ill be visiting part of th eir vacation tim e with grandparents, M r. and M rs . The Frys have five children, Fred In the 9th grade, P atric ia In the 6th, Roger in the 5th, Richard In the 2nd and Sally In the 1st. They have purchased the fo rm e r Pat Masterson res idence. F ry is in business In Idaho and commutes by plane, though recently he has been driving due tothe airline strike. BACK FROM CAM PING The M. D. Marsh fam ily of Port O rford returned from a 10-day vacation spent camping near Bend at Sparks and Todd lakes. VISITS HOME M rs . Harley HUterbrand, who has been employed at Salem, spent the weekend at her home In Langlois. T h e ir daughter, M rs . Jim Epperson of Brookings, visited during the weekend. Verdo H a rris and daughter, Judy, returned d u r in g the weekend from a 10,000-m lle trip which took them to the East Coast and back, viewing the nation’s top scenic attractions such as W illia m s burg, Cape Cod, Jamestown, P l y m o u t h Rock, Washington, D. C ., New York C ity and Chicago. Soon after the close of school In June the fam ily started their lengthy tour of the states and returned with an untold num ber( of pictures which w ill help to re -llv e th eir vacation of 1966. CONDUCTS SERVICES M r. and M rs . Vern Magneson, Roger H U I, Clinton Stole and Ileene Fisher attended the Sun day morning services of the Lutheran Church In Gold Beach. The group had part In the ser vice and served in place of the pastor who Is on vacation. A member of the shearing crew, Wayne Ross and his wife from Chadron, Neb., are tr a ile r camping at the Hall ranch this week while shearing for many of the sheep men In this area. ARMY Sgt. Gall E. Fryksdale pronounces him the winner In a balloon- shaving contest at the U. S. Army Hospital In Sagamthara, Japan. Sgt. Harmon was wounded when he was hit In the leg and stomach by a m ortar round while on duty as a heavy wea pons Infantry squad leader with the 1st Calvary Division In An Khe, Vietnam. Harmon Joined the A r m y In March 1960 while living In Klamath Falls. He Is m a rrie d , and his wife and two daughters are living In Tacoma, Wash. The John Harmons have been residents of Port Orford for the past three years. M rs . Fryksdale Is one of 900 Red Cross v o l u n t e e r s who serve regularly In the U. S. M ilita ry hospitals and clinics throughout the F ar East to help brighten the spirits of service men who must remain hos pitalized for a long tim e. In addition to providing rec reation for patients like H ar mon, volunteers w rite letters home for patients whose In juries prevent them from w ri ting, t a k e care of shopping needs and often Just talk and listen. In the United States, Red Cross volunteers and staff are on call 24 hours a day at 3,400 chapters located through out the country to relay mess ages and Information to and from fam ilies In the largest cities or the smallest com munities. And, around the globe, other Red Cross workers are on duty with the U. S.
