« V/4 ****** Port Orioni, Curry County, Oregon Thursday, J une 2, 1966 Price Ten Cent» Duncan Issues Statement Thank you for nom inating me as the Dem ocratic candidate for the United States Senate. I am h o n o r e d . I shall try to fu lfill your expectations. The differences d u r i n g this cam paign have been discussed honestly and fa irly b y H o w a rl Morgan. He is a fine Der-.ocrat. He is a fine public servant. Ore gonians should take pride in his pattrecord of service and a n ti cipate future service of h i calib er. I 1 o o k forward to re ceiving his active support during the c a m p a ig n .. . just as I would have a c tiv e ly campaigned for him had he won today. You know, we D e m o c r a t s scrap lik e a lle y cats during pri maries, but as in the past 1 hope we a ll w ill work together during the im portant months ahead. Now Regard the forthcoming cam paign not p rim arily as an opportunity to run against the other m ajo r p o litic al party or its candidate. Rather, I regard the forthcom ing cam paign as an opportunity to educate ourselves in the great issues confronting our nation.
