He received the nomination In 1964 but was defeated In the general election by Incumbent representative Carl Back (D) of Port Orford. McKenzie, 46, a Curry coun ty i anther and livestock buyer, served In the legislature dur ing the 1953 and 1955 term s. He has long teen active In county affairs, serving on the Intermediate s c h o o l board, county budget committee, draft board and as a director of the Coos f orest Protective A ssoc iation. During WWI1, McKenzie was a Marine buck sergeant and a m ender of the famed Carlson’s Raiders. He Is a 1945 graduate of Oregon State University, a men tier o: the American I-e- gion, Elks Lodge, Sixes Grange and a 12nd degree Mason. He and his wife, Grace, have two sons, Rick 14,andDavld 11.
