According to the sheriff's of fice report, Bement had a perm it for a fire on his Denmark ranch but had allowed the fire to cross the ranch boundary. Be ment repeated the threats but officers were able to take him into emtody after they managed to get his rifle . The opportunity Is the Peace Corps Placement Test, which Is not passed or failed and you can’t study for It. It measures general aptitude and the abil ity to learn a language. If, for example, test scores indicate limited language acquiring ab ility , the Peace Corps tries to place the applicant In an Eng lish-speaking area. The test is used by the Peace Corps only as a tool In the matching of volunteers and Jobs. The Peace Corps application Is the m o s t Important Indicator of suitability for Peace Corps ser vice. M rs. Volck was born Dec. 25, 1891, near Sltkuni to M r. and M rs. Neva H a rry . Grandparents were M r. and M rs . John Alva Harry and were among the earliest pioneers, coming Into Coos county about 1854. John H a rry later served as the first assessor for Coos county. A woman of rare capabil ities, Wanda has a long career of worth a c h i e v e m e n t s In cluding 50 consecutive years of teaching school In Coos and C u rry counties. Her teaching career started when she received her 8th grade diploma from the Gravelford Academy In Coos County. I * - ter on she attended Southerr Oregon College at Ashland ant graduated from there In 1930. Following the graduation sht was m arried to A1 Volck In Ashland who died In A p ril of 1963. M rs. Volck was a charter member of Rho Delta Kappa sorority, a national teacher’ s honorary, and was past presi dent of Curry County’ s division of Oregon Education Associa tion. Before her retirem ent In 1950, she was honored as"T ea- cher of the Y e a r.” Other achievements Included being a 4-H club leader for 30 years and during the sum mer vacation she would organ- lie a g irls ’ summer camp on Floras Creek, ’ ’t r e a s u r e d memory days” for many girls of the Langlois area. She was a charter meml'er of the Bandon Seventh-day Ad ventist church and In 1963 was chosen "Pioneer Queen” for the Coos-Curry Pioneer and lsto rlcal Association, an or ganization of which she was an active member. Her remarkable energy made It possible for her to fulfill her Ufe-long dream, taking a trip around the world, which she completed In June of this year, having been away for over eight months. Part of the time of which was spent with her niece and fam ily, M r. and M rs. C, H. Homel In Lahore, Pak istan. During her stay In Pak istan she r e s u m e d her oc cupation as a teacher and help ed teach English to young Pak istan students and later taught art and English to other tea chers. M em orial service was con ducted by Pastor Boundey. Vio lin solo was by Roger Stank- avltch, and a duet by Roger and the church organist was given. Interment was In the family plot at the Dora cemetery. She la survived by two broth ers , Ralph H arry of Portland, and Alva H arry of Langlois, and numerous nieces and nephews.
