This road would be what Is known as the Illinois riv e r route, and while not a water level grade it would, according to forest service officials aid others fam iliar with the te r rain , be the most practical way to link the Rogue River v a l l e y area with the C u rry County coast. The road from G o ld Heach to Agness now meets F.A.S. standards and Is scheduled to I*- paved this sum m er. The connecting link from A . n e s s to Selma, about 37 m iles, would pass over the lowest practical elevation — about 2700 feet — thereby In suring tlie most snow free route as well as the least grade. The voters w ill cast their ballots lietween the hours of 2 and 8 p.m . at the Port O r ford Elem entary School and at the Langlois P rim a ry School (old high school tsilkllng). The d istrict tax levy for the f is c a l year, which t'«-s.:in.-i July 1, 1963, Is 3339,035. That which w ill exceed the V", llm ttatioe and which w ill require tlie vo te rs ’ approval Is 3197,005. The excess Is necessitated because of Ihe lack of an adequate tax base In the d is tric t, explains Helen Slocum, d is trict clerk. Last year Ihe lax levy was 3389,646.37. The amount out side ihe 6r lim itatio n , which required a vote of the people, was 3272.578. This amount was lowered lo 3241,096.57 before being sent to the assessor for levying purposes. This reduc tion was made possible due to additional revenues made avail able from state and c o u n t y sources. The total lax levy of the 1965-66 school year w ill be 350,506 less than that which was submitted to the assessor for the school year 1964-65, s a id M rs . S lix u m . The West D ia m o n d L.ake Highway (ORE230) and the East D i a m o n d Lake Section of ORE 138 are scheduled to open May in , and Ihe M t. Hotxl Loop Highway (O R E35) is scheduled to open May 20, alxxit two weeks e a rlie r than last year. These highways have lieen c l o s e d due to heavy winter snowfall, accompanied by the usual slides and fallen trees. Damage by possible washouts cannot be determined until the state h ig h w a y maintenance crews progress further with clearing activities. Heavy dam- agn could alter a highway’ s opening date.
