Logging Experts To Compete 1954 fair-goers to the Coos County F air will have the added pleasure and excite ment of seeing Coos and Curry county logging experts show off their skills in competitive exercises These questions have long been asked “ Since logging and lumbering is Coos county's largest single industry, why isn't it better represented at the fair? ” , or. "Since county- fairs are designed to display the products and skills of a county, why aren't the pro ducts and skills of our major industry better displayed?" This year's fair will include a CcosCurry County Cham pionship ru n o ff of the top power saw buckers. high-pole climbers, and jockeys of load ed legging trucks. Elimination competition will be held at various times and places prior to the fair. The championship run-offs will be held on the Coos Coun ty Fairgrounds Saturday, Aug 15. Suggested purses for each e v e n t include third prize money of $50, second prize of $100, and third prize of $200 The prize money will be the result of donations from the various logging and lumber ing firms. The 279 girls from all parts of Oregon who are attending Girls State will constitute a mythical state for one week They will assume the duties of citizens by electing officials and setting up their own city, county and state governments Part ol the session will be held in the State Capitol Build ing, an experience that will he long remembered The inauguration of the newly ■elected governor will be held in the House of Represents tives Thursday at 2:00 p m Goversar Mark 0 Hatfield will be the guest speaker The Senators and Represen tatives will hold legislative sessions in the House and Sen ate where they will introduce, debate and pass bills There will be a visit to the Supreme Court where the duties and functions will be explained The 1963 governor. Miss Cindy Harless, Klamath Falls, will preside until her successor is elected. Two girls will be selected to attend Girls' Na tion in Washington. D.C. The final program at Girls' State will be the Candlelight service which is held in the rotunda at the Capitol, Satur day evening at 9 00 p.m Girls State will close on Sunday.
