H. Erichsen, Engineers. The planning contract stipulates that the fee w ill not ex ceed 11 per cent of the initial phase of the sewer construction cost. The new scenic areas are on sections of the Oregon Coast Highway, the Willamette Highway, the Crater Lake Early Parade Entries Asked noted In his report, the chief also noted that only authorized per sonnel shall be permitted to handle fire equipment at fu ture fires A special meeting of the community center association has been called for Friday, June 12, to discuss an offer to purchase a .building and grounds for use as a commun ity center. Jackson St. so the street can be opened to the highway. All of the street is 80 feet wide except a portion near the north endwhich is4 0 feet. Easements are needed to bring the street to full width. The street w ill be widened and brought to grade. This year's them e is "Beach comber Daze. " Several clubs have already started on floats, Peterson said, among them are the Sorority, TOPS club, Ait Association and the jaycees. In addition, o n e float has been promised from Coos Bay. This w ill feature a sm all band, dancing and sing ing girls and m ajorettes. They w ill also conduct a program at Battle Rock Park follow ing the parade. Pacific High school band will lead the march, nearly a m ile long, from 19th St. to the Park area. Six divisions w ill be featured this year with Trophies award ed for first p lace an dr: Ebons for second and third. In addition t h e r e w ill be a sweepstakes trophy. Divisions include: Commer c ia l, Service Clubs, Marching B a n d , junior Entry, Mounted Riding Croup andm iscellaneous floats. The Board's action bans the construction of new billboards in these areas Signs now ex isting must be removed with in seven years. Signs are per mitted within scenic areas only on the premises of the business or service advertised. Hearings were held on all the proposed scenic areas dur ing April and May. The high way sections designated as scenic areas are as follows Oregon C o a s t Highway: from the citv limits of Gold Beach south 11 miles to point about two miles south of Pistol River, on the west side of the highway. The Board denied petition to designate three areas on the east side of this same section but did desig nate over seven miles of the east side as scenic. Band Uniforms Are Shipped Word was received by Paci fic High School principal John Wahl Tuesday morning that band uniforms have been shipped from New York and will be available for pickup after 7 p.m June 9. Wahl said arrangements have been made to have the uniforms shipped to Port Or ford via Consolidated Freight and that they should be here in time for the July 4th band practice the evening of Junt 18. No one appeared to discuss the city budget and it was a- dopted as published a n d for warded to the county assessor. July 4th Celebra tion in Port Orford, with the flower show committee, head ed by Mrs. Clara Erwin, spon soring it. Tbe top exhibit in the three class unlimited entry show will be selected by Miss Beach cember and receive her pur pie ribbon. Held at the local grade school, entries w ill be received Thursday evening, July 2, and from 8 to 10 a m. Friday, July 3. Exhibits w ill be released at 3 p.m. July 5. Chamber Told Court Bought Local Papers Representative on the Curry county chamber group Red M c W illiams told the chamber ol com m erce Monday noon that the county court had budgeted $1, 200 for use by the county chamber group. In addition, he said, the court also purchased a total of $1, 600 worth of spec ial edition papers from Brook ings and Gold Beach, in lieu of publishing a county brochure for this year. M cW illiam s said a m eeting of the county group was slated for june 10 to discuss use of the $1 ,2 0 0 . S o m e of it will no doubt go to pay for the Cuny county sign south of Crescent City, he noted, and some radio advertising may be purchased. The occasion is to mark the opening of a new- building housing the office, gift shop, grocery store and living quarters. The Ranch is the site of the Arizona Inn stage stop.
