Wilcox, M. D , , State Health Officer, emphasised the need for follow-up clinics to immunise animals that were shot' two or more years ago. To build an animal population protected against rabies provides a buffer between humans and the rabies reservoir known to exist in wildlife,'' stated Dr. Wilcox. The tourist season brings with it an additional exposure risk with people and pets moving into the a r e a from other areas where pets may not have been protected against rabies. " Brookings Azalea Festival Gels National Recognition Brookings’ Silver Anniver sary Azalea Festival, to be held Memorial Day weekend, May 30-31, received national atterticn this month when an article concerning the Festival and the attractions in the Brookings area appeared in a nationally distributed maga zine, Trail-R-News. Azalea State P ark located within the city lim its, where many of the Festival events take place, was described in the article as “ a natural gar den of native azaleas, to all appearances, natural hybrids . . . some are said to be 300 years old” . The native Azaleas are now bursting into bloom, prepar ing to appear in all their glory for the 1964 festivities. The annual pageant is gain ing in popularity each year, with over 8,000 persons attend ing in 1963. This year's celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Festival is expected to again draw record crowds, with many events, scheduled over the two days. Approximately 19 organizations have been en listed to handle the various events which w ill be going on throughout the city.
