Two Men Perish In Rogue Entrance Attempt The organized search for the bodies of John Walker, 54, Ban don, and Ray Jones, 40, Gold Beach, was relaxed Wednesday a f t e r continuous patrols up to late Tuesday evening failed to produce results, according to the Curry county sheriff's office. The two men were lost Sun day afternoon about 4:10 when th e ir crab boat capsized and sank as they were attempting to cross th e Rogue River bar at Cold Beach. According to a report, the boat North Wind, owned by Ray Nowlin of Port Orford, was com ing over th e bar when it w a s h it by * breaker in rough seas. The tragedy was witnessed by Bob Nowlin, who had entered t h e Rogue River on his ooat H alco just ahead of the North Wind. He said that heavy seas caught the boat, sinking it im m ediately w ith both m en aboard. T h e boat was s a id to liave " p i t c h-pulled, " turned com p le te ly over end for end, when i t went down. A search was launched by the C o a s t Guard, assisted by the sheriff's office, c ity police and o t h e r volunteers in the Gold Beach area. Two local fishing boats from Port Orford who heard the ca ll from Bob Nowlin also jo in e d the search Sunday even ing. The search continued tnrough Monay and Tuesday w ith Cur ry county sheriff B ill Cauntlett and Rich Buffington making an airplane patrol of th e beach areas late Tuesday.
