Curry Park Gels New Land The Oregon State H ighw ay' C om m ission today accepted a g ift o f 34.83 acres of land as an ad dition to Cape Sebastian State Park in Curry County The g ift w a s made hy C. H. Young o f Medford. The tra c t lies between the existing park a n d the P a cific ocean. The land is quite pre cip itou s and does not lend its e lf to p u b lic u s e but is valuable from the scenic aspect. False Fire Alarms Noted The Port O rford Volunteer fire departm ent h a s on record 51 false fire alarms so far this year. Not recorded are the numerous short, or "one peak of the siren, " alarm s estim ated to be about 35 to date, m a kin g a to ta l estim a te o f about 90. Anyone con victed o f turning in a false fire alarm canbe f in ed up to $100. 00. Parents are urged by the fire departm ent to keep a check on th e ir phones any tim e the alarm is blow ing. Some youngsters, they say, th in k it cute to d ia l the phone and hear the fire a- la rm , then hang up. Telephone em ployees can trace calls back to the phones being used, should the same phone be used consis te n tly , the departm ent pointed out. Members o f the volunteer fire departm ent are asking the co op era tion o f everyone to help in stopping these numerous false alarms. Forest Patrol Tax Rate Can Be Reduced All ranchers who have chang ed the use of their land from tim ber to grazing may apply for the grazing rate on fire pa trol taxes, according to Lou Oester, county extension agent. Applications w ill be taken at the extension office until Dec 5 and inspection of property w ilt be made by a representative of Coos Forest Protective Associ ation after that date. The pur pose of the action is to reduce forest patrol tax on land where the fire hazard has been re duced. This would only apply to land tnat has changed use during the past year, unless action was not taken in previous years, says Oester.
