Thursday. March 30, 1M1—3 PORT ORFORD N 8 W 8 SCENES SOUNDS OF YOUR OLD HOME TOWNS with Ijuruine Haines Signs of Spring: Sunny days—birds flying northward—wilu flowers uursting out in unexpected places—Mrs'. Herzi- sitting out on the sidewalk sunning in front of the long-vacant store—more through traffic—more pedestrians—nightly frog symphonies. • • » • • All of Eric Reutercrona's musical fans and friends will be thrilled to know that he is home, after six days in the hospital, fol lowing the car accident near Scottsburg ten days ago. His right arm is badly injured, but within hours after his arrival home, he propped it up with a pillow and gave forth with some beautiful one-fingei melodies on his beloved organ. Viva la courage, and more power! • • • • Last Saturday a friend phoned Mrs. Hazel Knapp that a soldier was hitch-hiking down Knapp road. In nothing flat, she sped to ward the walking "suspect” and found it to be son Neil, just re leased from his two-year army duty—fresh from Germany. Neil was hoping to walk in on the family after getting off the bus and surprise them, but the situation was reversed when he discovered that his sister June Angell, Nat and the three boys had arrived from Seattle the day before. A marvelous family reunion ensued. Nat Angell had just returned from a voyage to China and Japan; the boys were having a school vacation, and the timing for all events could not have been more perfect. The Angells left for Seat tle on Tuesduy and Neil thinks home and Oregon never looked bet ter. • • • * • Despite the announcement, and avowed plans, that the Com munity church would hold its first service in their new edifice on Easter Sunday, it Just couldn't be done. Instead, the Sunday school program and Easter worship service will be held at the Sixes grange hall. The service starts at 10:30 and will last approximate ly one hour—all members of the community are cordially invited. • * * • • The Sunset Garden club met at Humbug Lodge on the evening of March 22nd for a no-hostess dinner. Fourteen members were present and enjoyed a delightful evening of bingo for which the prizes were pale pachyderms (white elephants) that the gals had gayly wrapped and taken for the occasion. • • • • • If the weather is conducive, an Easter Sunrise service is plan ned on Coast Guard hill next Sunday morning at six a m., and what a perfectly beautiful and spiritual spot. This service is spon sored by the Assembly of God church, which will welcome early worshippers at the church if the climate is inclement. * * * * * The Jaycettes are planning their first money-rraking endeavor, and they have many interesting and beneficial projects in mind for same, in the form of a rummage sale at the co-op building on April 6th and 7th All who can should attend and help these nice young women try their first financial wings. * * * * * Seems like the greater portion of our populace are growing balmy over beach combing, and with a vengeance! Of course, the object of their four a m.—bleak and cold beach hikes—are the glass floats that presumably originate in Japan. Some of the "phobiates" have gleaned literally hundreds of these items all shapes and sizes. Our flying friend, Ted McKenzie, beats the land-lubbers to the prize pieces by spotting them from aloft, then landing on the beach to obtain them, in the more isolated places. Being an arm-chair enthusiast, what this reporter can’t figure out is—what does one do with all these “balls” beside exploit the “catch” and go back for more? * * * * * Miss Sharon Wilson and Miss Patsy Goergen were hostesses at a lovely bridal shower last Monday evening, a week ago, honoring Jeannette Meade, bride-elect of Donal Fromm. You have no idea what you missed, weather-wise, here! * * * * * Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Whitehouse of Paisely, visited her brother and family, the Charles Haines three days last week. The next day after they arrived home. Sunday morning, they awoke to three inches of snow. There are worse things than rain, we think, like tornadoes, for instance. * * * * * This i the time of year when those who lost their faith in seed catalogues la. t July are beginning to believe again. * * * * • See you next week S P R IN G W EEK EGGS PLUS A FINE ASSORTMENT OF ALL KINDS OF EASTER CANDIES !
