The Port Ortoid Deep Water Harbor — KEY to the Development of the Vast Natural Resources of the Mid-Pacific Coast Empire PORT ORFORD NEWS Volume VI. Port Orford, Oregon, Tuesday, August 23, 1932. Predicts Prosperous Era; More Optimistic Spirit Prevails (B y Rogue River Route DESERVED TRIBUTE (From Oregonian) W. Freeland Kendrick, mayor of Philadelphia from January, 1924, to January, 1928, and eximperial potentate of the Mystic Shrine, is filling his lungs with good Oregon ozone. He is the guest of Mayor Baker at The Tides, near Seaside, over the week end. The Philadelphian is a great booster for the Beaver commonwealth, especially for the old Roosevelt Coast highway, now officially known as the Oregon Coast highway. “We drove up from ' San Francisco along the Coast highway, and I want to say that it is the most magnificent and stupendous road in the world,” de clared Mr. Kendrick at the Benson hotel. “I’ve trav eled over the most famous highways in Europe, in cluding that very famous way from Genoa to Nice, also your own Columbia River highway, but I want to say that the most wonderful of all is the coast route from San Francisco to the Columbia river. “It is especially fine near the California-Oregon line. There one finds a blending of the redwoods and firs, with the ocean at one side and beautiful hills and forests on the other side. Here and there are light houses on wild bits of the coast, and then come the houses of the coast guards. It is a trip all the world should take.” Number 41.
