What will you do next Sunday? Will you think not only of your own, but of somebody else*s Mother, who may be in need of a kindly word, a smile or an in vitation to join in the many services throughout the many churches honoring those who have given their best to the human race ? Humanity’s greatest friend throughout the ages has been the true Mother. In her humble task of rear ing the world’s greatest, as well as less great citizens, she has proven from the beginning of time to be the endless source from which all true greatness springs. As untiring in her labors of love as the force of gravity, as loyal and as faithful to duty as the even ing star or the rising sun, has been the'Mother down the annals of history. Behind every noble deed and work of art is the influence of a Mother. The true testimony of the world’s greatest, if taken, would be as that of Abra ham Lincoln, who said, “All that I am or hope to be I owe to my Angel Mother.’’ The home is the greatest of all institutions. When the homes of a nation begin to fall, the schools, the church and the nation itself soon follows. The coun try of tomorrow will be what our homes are today. As the hand of our Lord’s Mother guided Him through the paths of His early life, so the hand of the true Mother guides her loving God-given charges to the age where reason must take up the task and carry on through the years of stride and temptation. The parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins has been likened to the present day Mother, by a learned writer, but the outstanding truth remains and the true Mother reigns supreme, in fact or in sacred memory, as the inspiration of all good and the fount from which all earthly greatness flows. Join forces next Sunday with the ranks of those who pause a moment in this vale of cares and offer up a prayer for your own and the countless others throughout the universe who are somebody’s Mother, as well as for the memory of the sainted souls, who have laid aside their endless burdens of love and care, folded poor tired, timeworn hands and fallen asleep in Jesus, for it is written in the Scriptures that “It is a good thing to pray for the dead.” PORT ORFORD LOCALS
