0E 0THER appropriate names
w ’.Kh AVAILABLE is best known to the men themselves The
public does not understand, therefore, why, if incorporation was
SO desirable and a necessity in the interests of the community,
the matter was not taken up with the existing chamber with the
suggt'slion that such action was advisable and necessary instead
of surreptitiously appropriating the name of an existing organi
zation in an attempt to render it functionless and filing articles
with the State Corporation Commissioner without disclosng to
that official that there was an existing organization by the same
name as the name sought; nor does the public understand what
motive is hack of the continued effort to discredit the work of the
existing chamber; nor why, if the same personnel could not func
tion successfully under the corporate name of Currv County
Chamlier of Commerce there is any reason to believe that suc
cessful community work may he had by the same men simply as a
resu. i-°u a,
of hand trick of appropriating an honorable and
established name, especially so when the new horn apparently
starts life with the handicap of a cloud on its good faith and good
intentions; and, lastly, the public cannot understand what motive
promoted the interference in the ('oast Guard station matter,
whereby needed relief employment was delayed, and. possibly.
lost; nor the opposition to the harbor improvement matter. The
community is entitled to a full and complete understanding of
these matters before it is justified in extending its confidence, as
it is the future of the community that is being juggled with and
jeopardized.
Good faith is a requisite to the confidence of a community, as
well as of an individual, and good faith is not obtained except on
<i meritorious showing. Without good faith successful community
work cannot prevail.
The appropriation of the name of the existing Port Orford
( hambet df ( ommerce is to he regretted as it places in jeopardy
the constructive program that that chamber has under way—a
jeopardy that means much to the citizens and taxpayers of the
port district and the whole Port Orford area.
Citizens who do their own thinking and who are not swayed
by mob-psychology are outspoken in their denunciation of the
plan to hamper the work of the established Port Orford Chamber
of Commerce and frankly predict that a definite and tangible
step backward has lieen taken. They generally express the hop»
that those responsible for this critical situation in the affairs of
the community will speedily take steps to undo the wrong that has
been done the community ami Currv countv generallv.
