$3,943.040 w as approved at a con­

resentatives of the bureau of pub­
lic roads recently at the Imperial
hotel. Work under the program will
be started April 1, sim ultaneously
with the conclusion of the present
em ergency program.
In order to make this possible
and to take up the slack in em ­
ploym ent im m ediately, the com ­
mission voted to issue $1,000,000 in
short-term notes, payable October
first. This m oney w ill care for
principal and Interest paym ents on
bonds com ing due and provide
funds to carry on the building pro­
gram until the automobile license
fee m oneys are available July 1.
Bids will be received by the high­
way comm ission on this issue at its
regular m eeting March 3.
The construction program which
w as launched at the session em ­
braces $2,333,680 of state funds and
$1,609,360 of federal aid funds. The
program is exclusive of the $1,500,-
000 forest highway program adopt­
ed in December. Under the present
plans of the comm ission a total
of governm ent and state funds to
be spent in new construction in
Oregon during the present year
will total nearly $5,500.000.
