In the Port ord case a vital additional reason is found for the Federal the facMhat JH^ertaking Jhe improvement of the local harbor in the fact that 6- per cent of the acreage of the county is owned by tG,);7unment and’,th.erefore, tax exempt, the remaining 38 per cent of the acreage being required to provide all taxes for the PnfiP° it 4kf thfG 4C°Unty £°vernment, the county’s proportion of the cost of the state government, and such federal taxes as may be levied The one way in which this tax problem mav be adjusted and alleviated is for the government to do those things properly governmental work, where requisite and necesslrv, that will aid in the commercial development of the county. This fact '." generally recognized and has successfully supported the pleas of other communities seeking aid in their harbor improvements. Port Orford is extremely fortunate from the standpoint of what nature provided and Port Orford has been fortunate so far in her progress through the opening up of the county by adequate transportiition of the highway class, in having the support of a profitable dairy industry, in securing the new coast guard sta tion and in perpetuating those points of interest—such as acces sibility to Port Orford beach, the magnificent ocean panorama view’ from the state owned park fronting Rattle Rock, and the newly created Sealion Refuge on Port Orford and Blanco reefs— for the pleasure and enjoyment of the tourist traffic. Port Orford will continue to be fortunate in furthering her progress if she will but follow the same sound lines in her efforts to secure the im- proxement of the local harbor as was followed in developing the other fundamental lines of endeavor. There is no magic or mystery about such work and soundness of plan and sincerity of purpose must be the guides in the future as in the past. Promoter Draws 12 Yrs.
