Panter Killed Number 52. Sells $1,500,000 Bonds; Roosevelt Contract Let FOURTH ANNIVERSARY With this issue the Port Orford News completes its fourth year, and a review of its activities discloses that it has fully car ried out its initial announced purpose of supporting the full de velopment of the rich Curry County region. It supported and was in no small way responsible for the success of the movement to prevent the lands lying west of the Roosevelt Highway in Curry county being thrown into a game preserve, which had the plan been successful, would have destroyed a dairy industry in north ern Curry with a gross annual income upwards of $250,000.00; it supported the successful movement to free the scenic Roosevelt highway from Bandon south to the California state line of the commercial sign and billboard nuisance, and the maintenance of the region traversed by this great travel artery in its natural state—a condition which has received widespread recognition throughout the nation and abroad; it supported the successful movement to preserve historic Battle Rock and the wonderful ocean panorama of that vicinity for the benefit and enjoyment of the public for all time, by inducing the State Highway Commis sion to acquire the lands lying south of the highway for parking purposes; it supported the movement for the establishment of a coast guard station at Port Orford, with the result that the Treasury Department has promised to include the item in its 1932 budget; it is supporting wholeheartedly the movement for Fed eral aid for the improvement of the natural deep water harbor at Port Orford, and has an abiding faith in the ultimate outcome; it is supporting the movement for the creation of a sealion refuge of the reefs off the Curry County coast for the preservation of this interesting mammal as a natural attraction ; it has given gen erously of its time and space in telling of the bountiful natural resources of the region, its wonderful climate and magnificent scenery, etc. ; it has given generously of its space in support of the civic organizations of Port Orford, including the Port Orford Chamber of Commerce, the library, the civic clubs, schools, and church ; and it has faithfully portrayed the news of the region each week. The News has kept the faith and on this the Fourth An niversary it renews its pledge to work for the full development of Southwestern Oregon and to continue its activities in support of the general welfare of Port Orford and Curry County generally. In return it believes it is entitled to the support of the people whom it serves.
