Where you are is of no moment, but only what you are doing there. It is not the place that ennobles you, but you the place; and this only by doing that which is great and noble.—Petrarch. GRAPVINE PUBUCITY The advent of our great highway system, flanked ♦ » ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ with hotels, camp grounds, resorts, service stations ♦ ♦ and garages, has treated one of the most effective * ™E HWtSK BY THK 8,DE * mediums for advertising a region from the tourists’ standpoint that could be devised—the word of mouth publicity, compared with which there is none so ef fective, be it for good or otherwise. Tourists traveling this great highway system and receiving fair treat ment are only too prone to pass the good word along when they congregate at hotels or camp grounds dur ing their stops, and likewise unfair treatment is com mented upon and passed along with the admonition to avoid such a town, such a hotel, such a camp ground, such a restaurant, or such a service station. In fact unfavorable comment is passed out and travels much fasted than favorable comment, and woe unto the one who caters to the tourists’ wants who attempts extor tion or unfair dealings with the passing tourist on the theory that he will pass his way but the once. His business future is as unsafe and unsound as the sands of the sea, while his rival—who gives fair treatment to all—will prosper and flourish. | The tourists have this novel grapevine weapon to combat attetmpts to deal unfairly with them, and I there is no comeback to it. The moral is plain. Fair treatment should be accorded every stranger who favors you with his patronage. County Clerk Records DR. M. E. CORTHELL H. L. HOUSTON, M. D.
